    “Meat Ant Country”,the giant meat ant is over a million times the size of an actual ant. The notorious bush ranger brothers Patrick & James Kenniff were a part of Qlds largest manhunt over 30 yrs. The town built up gradually what was a KUNJA tribal territory , came into being a resting place for bullock teams. Lying at the convergence of 3 bullock tracks from Moven, Tambo & Charleville. Originally called Burenda it was re named Ellangowan( still the name of the watering hole). In 1833 it was call is apparently Indigenous Australian word meaning “camp on a waterhole”.Augathella is the destination of cattle drovers in a Aussie folk song called “ Augathella Station”. Population of this town is 449 & is situated on the Warrego river ( Aboriginal word meaning.... river of sand.
