Great Lake Taupo & Maori Rock Carving

Insgesamt haben wir nun eine Woche am Great Lake Taupo und Umgebung verbracht. Angefangen von den Huka Falls, über Mount Tauhara bis hin zum Tongariro Alpine Crossing und dem Maori Rock Carving. Durch die Huka Falls (1. Bild), ein flacher, langer aber sehr gewaltiger Wasserfall, fließen pro Sekunde 200.000 Liter Wasser. Die Huka Falls sind ein Bestandteil des Waikato River, welcher sich vom Lake Taupo bis hin zur Tasmanischen See erstreckt. Er ist mit 425km der längste Fluss in Neuseeland. Diesen Wasserfall schauten wir uns am Mittwoch an und waren schwer beeindruckt, da er nicht nur Trinkwasser bereitstellt sondern auch 13% des Landes mit Strom versorgt. Am Donnerstag wanderten wir auf Mount Tauraha (3. Bild), von dem aus man einen schönen Blick über ganz Taupo und den See bis hin zu den Tongariro Bergen hatte. Nach dem Tongariro Crossing am Sonntag machten wir am Montag eine 2-stündige Bootstour zur Mine Bay, in der man den Maori Rock (4. & 5. Bild) bestaunen kann. Dort ist ein, von den Maori in Stein gemeißeltes, Gesicht des Maoris Ngatoroirangi, welcher 2 Maori-Stämme nach Taupo führte, zu sehen.
Heute sagen wir Tschüss Lake Taupo, für uns geht es nun weiter in Richtung Napier und Hastings.

Great Lake Taupo & Maori Rock Carving

Actually we stayed for at least one week in Taupo and its surrounding areas. Our journey started at the Huka Falls, went on to Mount Tauhara and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and ends up with the Maori Rock Carvng. The Huka Falls are really amazing. Its a flat but long waterfall and its strength is massive cause there are running 200.000 litres of water through the falls. The Waikato River, the longest river in NZ with 425km length, starts from Lake Taupo and goes on till it reaches the Tasman Sea. We visited the Huka Falls on Wednesday and we where greatly impressed cause the falls providing drinking water for NZ and 13% of the whole NZ power.
On Thursday we had a hike to the top of Mount Tauhara where we could see Lake Taupo and the city from above and the Tongariro mountains as well.
After we made the Tongariro Crossing on Sunday, we went for a 2 hours ride with a boat to the Mine Bay. There we could admire the Maori Rock, a face of a Maori set in stone.
Today we say Goodbye to Great Lake Taupo cause we go on to Napier and Hastings for the next days.Read more
