Certosa di Pavia

A lovely Carthusian monastery, built to the glory of the Visconti and Sforza families, as well as to the glory of God. The first picture is the view from the sosta on which we are parked for a day orWeiterlesen
Dry in the van
8. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Pavia and its trains
9. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

10. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C
Very reasonable journey southwards to Tuscany. Passed Carrara which still seems to have some marble left in its mountains. Good drying weather too. The sunloungers by the lake have an excellent viewWeiterlesen
Pisa
11. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C
A tower, with a lean so pronounced that it is a surreal experience on the spiral stairs as you tip from the outside to the inside of the steps. This is confirmed in the wear on the marble stairs.Weiterlesen
Lovely Lucca
12.–15. Sept. 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C
San Michele with the amazing facade, the duomo with a similar but asymmetrical facade and Puccini's birthplace and museum complete with the sheet music I have had on my wall since I was in Tockwith.Weiterlesen
Volterra
13. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C
Hour and a half from the last campsite, with shopping on the way. Windy hill town inland with a view as far as Corsica. Long trousers, jacket, and heating in the evening, but stayed dry. We could seeWeiterlesen
San Gimignano...footsteps of Tony Blair

Siena...learning about the Palio
16. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C
We arrived mid-morning along with a lot of other vans at a pricy campsite in Siena. By the afternoon we had used the washing machine, drier and swimming pool and were ready to explore Siena. Even theWeiterlesen
Still Siena
17. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C
A much cooler day with rain threatening, so more for indoor activities. We started with the much frescoed Museo Civico; the Maesta shown was the highlight.
If there's a tower, climb it. The Torre delWeiterlesen
Unexpectedly Arezzo
18. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C
We planned to go to Montepulciano to do some walking but the forecast of storms was rather discouraging. We have headed for Arezzo and booked for the famous frescos tomorrow. Today we admired the viewWeiterlesen
Arezzo again
19. September 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C
Main aim today was to be at St Francesco for 12.00 for the booked visit to Piero della Francesca's frescos. They lived up to expectations despite our recent pretty solid diet of painted walls.Weiterlesen
Montepulciano
