Currently traveling
To France via the tunnel, then down the West Coast and crossing the Spanish border into the Pyrenees. Wending eastwards through the mountains to the Costa Brava coast north of Barcelona. Returning home through central France.

    Cadaques

    Well we came to the decision of driving to Cadaques in the motorhome rather than risk the few buses that go sometime every day over the steep hillside, I honestly thought we had finished with narrow winding roads but I was wrong. We are going to look around the town then walk out to the small fishing village, the Casa Dali home of Salvador Dali. The wind has got up and according to the weather app we can expect gusts of up to 51mph, so the sea is a little choppier today. Beautiful little town though parking charges extortionate (first time we have encountered this on this trip).Read more

    Roses

    We have moved on today to Roses and for the first time since leaving home we are heading north. We are stopping here for two nights. Roses is a bigger town than we expected with a huge sweep of a bay with a lovely fine sandy beach. After arriving we decided to walk into town to find the bus station and a timetable as the plan is to catch the bus tomorrow into Cadaques to visit the home of Salvador Dali but this is where the plan comes unstuck and Martin is left feeling bereft and wanting to pack up and come home. The buses only run 3 times a day and none of the times are suitable what are we going to do if we can't go on the bus, so we go for a beer and see what we can think to do. Still haven't decided but will let you know tomorrow. Weather is not so good today we have more cloud but still nice and warm.Read more

    L'Estartit

    After another leisurely morning, well it is Sunday after all, we get ourselves together for a walk around town to walk off last night's curry. Although parts of the town look old and unloved on the whole it's quite a nice town. There is a huge beach on which cars and camper vans are parked, some overnight, and a large marina. After walking the whole length of the promenade we take refuge from the sun in O'Malley's Irish Bar for a pint of the black stuff for his lordship and a beer for me followed by a dish of loaded nachos to share before we head back to the van to sort out where we are headed tomorrow.Read more

    Pals

    We left the campsite this morning to head for our next stay at L'Estartit but stopped off on the way at the town of Pals another beautiful Medieval town.

    Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc

    After a leisurely morning we went for a walk along the coastal path to Llafranc the next little village. The weather has warmed up a treat so we take it easy as there are quite a few steps along the way. Again the views are fabulous and the colour of the sea is beautiful, it really doesn't show up on the photos how lovely it is. We have to make a stop before the trek home so make the most of it with a drink and a spot of lunch. Back to the van and Martin decides to make the most of the facilities and go down to the pool, me I'm having a nap in the shade.Read more

    Besalu Church and Abbey

    We visited The Church of St. Vicenc De Besalu and the Abbey of St. Pere De Besalu both were beautiful buildings, total cost of entrance 4 Euro's. We also went into the Museum of Miniatures where they have displays of Miniature scenes carved into the eyes of needles and painted into the heads of pins, no pictures sorry not allowed to take them.Read more

    Besalu

    Today we are off to the Costa Brava stopping on the way at Besalu, a beautiful medieval town with a beautiful church and ancient abbey. We started off by walking along the river to get a good view of the bridge then headed into the old town. Although there are some souvenir shops here they are tasteful and not full of tat, this town also caters for tourists with more restaurants and bars than we have seen in any other town so far.Read more

    Calella Palafrugell

    We have arrived at our next destination and we have decided to stay for a couple of nights. After a quick lunch we had a walk into the town and along the prom, what else, the colour of the sea is beautiful real blue/green and so clear. We stop off for a beer before heading back for a sit and a read, tomorrow we will explore properly.Read more

    St Joan De Les Abdresses

    We have moved on to this quaint little town, the parking is much more pleasant and we even have a view from the motorhome of the medieval bridge. Any nearer we would be parked on the bridge itself. Just returned from a very nice evening stroll around this very old town.Read more

    Andorra and Ripoll

    Today we are going shopping in Andorra a tax free haven and also to fill up with petrol which is supposed to be cheap. Well what can I say, after reading the travel guide, which I will admit is quite old, we were expecting to see lot's of stalls lining the road into the town, what we actually got was lots of traffic signs for Burger King and McDonald's and big supermarkets. We couldn't find anywhere to park so turned round, filled up with petrol, only 1.06 Euro's a litre and left, we gave it a shithole rating of 9. After the diss appointment we continued on to Ripoll to see what the overnight parking was like, decided not to stay here but did have a nice walk around the town.Read more
