We are off on another road trip! Join us if you like, as we seek warm weather, baseball spring training, and fun! We left on Saturday and drive to Myrtle Beach. It was an uneventful dive, not even any traffic in Northern Virginia. It was in the 60s in So. Carolina in the evening, already an improvement, but the breeze is still chilly. Walk on the beach tomorrow.Read more
Sunday is for church first, after an internet search, we chose Barefoot Church, a non-denominational local church. We enjoyed the service. The name comes from the Barefoot Resort here in Myrtle Beach where the pastor lived when the church began in his living room. We sat through one of most high pressure time sharesales pitches we have had in a long time, but walked away with our $125 worth of gift cards for Outback, Carrabas, or Olive Garden. Finally we got to walk on the beach. The breeze was still chilly but it sure felt good to be out there so we walked for over 90 min. For supper we went back to a favorite from previous trips, BurgerFi. They have gigantic fabulous onion rings- I had one- and really good burgers. Then back to the resort for a relaxing evening.Read more
Driving day again, headed to Orlando. We stopped in Charleston, because....its Charleston! Went by the Citadel campus and made a visit to the bookstore to Puck a couple of things requested by our alumnae. Sine ce will see Andrew and Dani in May when they come to CA we can deliver then (that will be another trip to log). We walked around the parade ground to stretch our legs, then back on the road. Packed sandwiches for lunch. Had in dinner in Daytona, at Outback, using our gift cards. Another hour and we arrived in Orlando, staying at Bonnet Creek Resort. Took a walk around the lake in the middle of the resort, about a mile, before heading to bed. Long fun day tomorrow.Read more
Today was for Universal Islands of Adventure, where I finally got to ride my favorite roller coaster, the Hulk. It goes upside down seven times! I even ride it twice! We also got to see the Harry Potter world, decided not to try the butter beer as it is reported to be very sweet. We had dinner at Magaritaville and headed back to the resort. We were able to see fireworks from our balcony.Read more
We did another Wyndham presentation this morning before checking out to give them a chance to redeem themselves and to get $100 Disney credit to pay for one Epcot ticket. They kept their word, brief, informative and helpful with absolutely no sales pressure. Then we hit the road for Sarasota and Orioles baseball. It was hot, mid 80s and sunny. Felt SO good! We even got a little sunburn since we forgot to bring sunscreen. The Os won, 6-4.
We had dinner at Rosalene and Gary Wiegends house. Rosalene and I were in YWAM together in the early 70s in England. It was a wonderful reunion in their lovely home. I can't believe we didn't take ANY pictures. We checked into Days Inn Sarasota since we are going to another Ball game tomorrow.Read more
We had a relaxed morning with breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Then we went to the thrift store across the street and found some good buys. Then off to see the Orioles again, playing the Twins, they lost 6-4. But I enjoyed sitting in the sun, saying Boogs BBQ. A palm frond blew off a tree and missed me by a foot. Larry sat in the shade.
After the game we drive down to Siesta Key Beach and grabbed an easy geocache, then walked for an hour, enjoying the powder white sand and diving penguins. We had dinner at Capt Curts seafood, amazing clam chowder, forgettable crab cakes. Drove back to Orlando for four days, staying at Wyndham Cypress Palms.Read more
Today was Epcot, we had never been here and were looking forward to checking it out. We met Cynthia Dils, Andrew's MIL, and her friend Mary there. We had a great day, beautiful weather, tolerable crowds. Had buffet lunch at the German beer garden, ride a few rides and enjoyed the floral displays for Flower and Garden festival. We stayed until closing for the fireworks.Read more
