• Day 10: Rome

    July 2, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Went on an excursion to Rome today. What a day!!!! It was a walking tour of about 7km, starting at the Colloseum and ending at St Paul's Basilica in the Vatican City.
The Colosseum was built in 100 AD, and we were shown pictures by our guide of how it looked then, compared to now!!! The Collosem was used for gladiator fights with each other or with ani.als. for other occasions, the centre was filled with water and used for navy battles. Today, the bottom part of the arena below the arena floor is the only part remaining . Some copper in the Colloseum was also taken out to build a sculpture in St. Paul's Basilica! The original sculptures in each of the arches have also been removed and are housed in a museum.
With temperature over 33 C, needless to say, Carol and I ended the day hot and exhausted!!
We had an hour bus ride from Rome, back to the ship, and headed straight for the pool and a coctail!
