    Rise and Shine

    October 27, 2017 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Okay.. I’ve felt better but it’s a start. I definitely wanted to see Singapore so we got our asses out of bed and just starting walking towards the city. We got some delicious cheap Asian food and decided to go to Marina Bay, the place where all the magic is artificial. Once we arrived there I was awed by the skyline full with huge buildings and the presence of the immense Marina Bay Sands Hotel. It looks like a big banana boat on top of three towers and right in front of it is a tulip like building. We stood on the other side of the water and the helix bridge connected both sides. Vaguely in the distance behind the helix bridge we could see the artificial trees. It was so weird to see all kinds of unique structures in one frame, it felt different than the other big cities I've been, Paris, London, Rome, Bangkok etc.

We went to the artificial trees as there was a light show in the evening. Just to tell you a little about that, the marina bay hotel (banana ship hotel) has on each side of the hotel a light show. One is a water fountain sprinkle light show and the other the artificial tree light show. These shows are definitely meant for the hotel guests, as they have a perfect view on the show and pay a shit load of money for a room. Well we went to see both shows for free. The artificial tree light show was fucking majestic, I would have not been surprised if an unicorn appeared a pooped rainbows in my face. Fucking majestic I say you. The other light show was nice but less impressive as the tree thingy.

After both shows we went into the city to get some food and experience the big city, but mostly to get some food. The center is occupied with a lot of big buildings, I really had the feeling that they were compensating for the fact that these Asians are really tiny. Well what to tell more? We got the food (cheese prata), were exhausted and went back to our hostel.

    Welcome in weird Asia

    October 27, 2017 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

It was 10:00 in the morning after a 22 hour long trip, so it was like 03:00 at night for us and hell it really felt like that. I was almost hallucinating while picking up my bags but in the same time I was flippin’ happy that we arrived at our first destination. This was also a quite exciting moment, as our bags were transferred for us the whole journey it was the question if they did a proper job. Luckily we saw our bags but there was something missing.. Our raincovers were not around our bags anymore, which is okay because New Zealand (where we will go in June) has no rain.

The combination of sleep deprivation, hunger, a new city and having no clue where to go is just as good as a cocktail of tequila, jagermeister and more tequila. Eventually we gave up on finding the way on our own and just asked somebody behind a counter. We got some directions, bought public transport cards with some credit and were sent on our way. We were amazed by the simplicity of public transport in Singapore, the tram/train/metro or whatever it is came every couple of minutes and checking in was like stealing babies from candy (fucking easy). The first 10 minutes of the tram/train/metro ride… you know what, they call it the MRT, Metro Ride Thingy, so will I. So the first 10 minutes we were underground and then we emerged above ground and I was totally stoked to see the big skylines, sunny weather, freaking 30 degrees, time to put my beach clothNOOOOO NONONONONO NOOOO XXXXXXXXXXXXXX IT WAS A FUCKING WATERFALL. It was pouring like crazy and of course Malaysia Airlines lost my raincover, it was a warm welcome. Dominique, my girlfriend (in case the stalker didn’t know this), already warned me about this, it’s usual in Singapore to have random heavy rainfalls. And yeah it was totally random, by the time we came back the rain stopped and we could walk to our hostel without ruining our mascara. We were totally wrecked and the moment we arrived at our hostel we decided to rest for a couple of hours… after stuffing our faces with cheap street food. No words can describe how good that was, so I won’t.

On the road.. On our way.. In the air

    October 26, 2017 in the Netherlands ⋅ 🌫 13 °C

So just to be really short about this.. We had a couple of flights before we arrived in Melbourne. First we headed of to London, transfer of 3 hours for the next plane. The next flight was to Kuala Lumpur, again a 3 hour transfer for the next plane to Singapore. There we would stay for 3 days before completing our journey.

So.. First flight I was totally excited so I didn't sleep and it was boring. The second flight was hell. It was a twelve hour flight and I hardly slept (as much hours as the amount of problems a bitch ain't, one). Just kept watching movies and ordering red wine, almost considered watching some chick flick and ask for tissues, just for the looks of it. No but seriously, after a couple of orders the flight attended looked at me like 'what the fudge'. STOP JUDGING ME

Finally we arrived in Kuala Lumpur and our flight to Singapore was half full (not half empty you pessimistic twat), so we just totally chilled and slept during that flight. The pilot announced our arrival and even added that it was 29 degrees outside HELLYEAH! Finally we were there, our first 'long' stop, Singapore!!

    Day freaking 1

    October 26, 2017 in the Netherlands ⋅ 🌫 13 °C

So there it is, my first day of traveling away from the country where I grew up. It is the first time I'll be away for more than just a couple of weeks and damn I suck at preparing myself. I was up until freaking 02:30 to say goodbye to my friends, finishing up my room and packing the last things to eventually be kicked in the face by my alarm two hours later. All sleep deprived and shit I was brought to the airport by my dad with my girlfriend, really having the Tim of my life. We came there and my mom and brother and Timon's family were there to wave us goodbye, at 5:30 in the morning.. They're nuts. To make my morning even better, in the row for the check-in I found out I didn't complete the holy triple S morning cycle, Shit, Shower, Shave. Since I did take a shower and remembered that I don't ever shave, it was my colon that was bugging me. So we checked in, had a nice goodbye moment with everybody, punched my brother in the nuts and went off to find the shitter (and gate). Arriving at the toilet it was all disappointment, it was just sad.. I produced a single bean, nothing more! But I was letting that behind me because a little while later Timon and I boarded the plane. Oh My Granny, our trip has officially begun.Read more

    Proper intro mates

    October 26, 2017 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

    Hey friends, family, unknown stalkers,

For my Master's degree and specialisation in Bioinformatics I'm going to Melbourne to do a six-month internship. On the 26th of oktober my journey to Melbourne has started and this is my first time I'm going away from home for a long time on my own. Well technically I'll not be alone, as one of my best friends Timon is also going in the same direction. Because I'm totally a virgin in freestyling in other continents for a long time, I wanted to share my experience with you guys.
Ahhhwww... no not with you weird stalker.
Sadly my experience will not be all parties, traveling through the whole country, catching dragons, going crazy and shit. Most of the time I will be that sad douche behind the computer from 9 till 5, but that doesn't stop me from having fun. I mean, come on, I can be quite an interesting person.. From time to time. So don't expect an update from me every day. But sometimes I will have something interesting to share, considering that my time here in Melbourne will be combined with several trips around Australia and in the end a trip to New Zealand.

So stick around and don't fall asleep!

    Seriously don't....
