    Ayacucho

    Ayacucho, also known as the city of churches, has it's importance in Peru's history. The first signs of human habitation where found here and the city was the capital for the Wari 500 years before the rise of the Incas.
    In 1540 the city grew as the Spanish were using it to fight against the Incas. Few centuries later, it's been the place where San Martin, Bolivar and Sucre met for the last fight against Spain and signed the end of its control of South America.
    Very recently (1980) this city has been the centre of the Sendero Luminoso, a revolutionary movement who wanted to overthrow the government.
