    Day 7 - Scone Palace

    June 10, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Our first wet day drove us inside to look around the Scone Palace.

Scone Palace is where the kings of Scotland were crowned while on the Stone of Scone before it was taken to Westminster Abbey by Edward I in 1296. There it sat under a wooden throne which was used in the coronation of supplicant kings & queens of England until the 1950's when it was stolen by 3 Scottish students as a prank. Once found it was returned to Westminster Abbey and was use in Queen Elizabeth II coronation. The stone was finally returned to Scotland in 1996 and now resides in Edinburgh Castle. The one pictured is a replica.

We have a 4 hour drive tomorrow to get to our next cottage in Arisaig, on the west coast, so will post once we have arrived and settled in.
