    Swiss chocolates and forbidden fruit

    Crossed the Taiwan Strait this morning. Came across an odd, unexpected sight on the Shanghai Pudong side - exiting travellers queueing at 7am for what else but duty free Swiss chocolates. Nobody else was buying anything - only Swiss chocolates were in demand!

    Then on the Taipei Taoyuan side, we got busted for having sliced apple pear. Apparently absolutely no fruits, vegetables or meats are allowed info Taiwan, and there is a seating area just after the quarantine check where passengers carrying forbidden items may sit and well, eat. We just had a few slices of apple pear on us and so we decided to gobble instead of chuck. Although we were the only ones there initially, we were shortly joined by a pair of girls with some more fruit, as well as old guy with a half dozen steamed buns - doh!
