Anse Vata: *The* spot to kitesurf gawk

    April 25, 2019 in New Caledonia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Wow! How fun! Admittedly for someone else who could survive the experience! We - and many other tourists on the beach - could have spent hours at Plage de l'Aquarêve and Plage du Méridien watching the kitesurfers sail around on the water and fly in the skies. The Méridien side appeared to be more geared toward the kitesurfing school, whereas the Aquarêve side was clearly where the pros hung out. It was amazing how many could fit in such a small area with no collisions or confusion - admittedly we didn’t have the impression that any of the guys out today were total noobs. Another thing that was quite surprising was how different the wind conditions were on the two sides of the little outcropping of land that separates the two beaches - the west-facing Méridien being relatively calm and the south-facing Aquarêve giving the guys a serious run of it! We could only imagine the speeds that the surfers were hitting out there - guess we’ll find out soon enough, as Meg, Davy and Poppy (NB: but not Mommy) were all inspired to give it a try one day.Read more
