    Day 3 - Faxi Waterfall

    We had a few different route choices for the loop back home and decided to head tot he third waterfall of the day, Faxi. After seeing Gullfoss with hundreds of other tourists, pulling off the road to see Faxi couldn't have been any more different - we were almost on our own next to a beautiful wide waterfall. You could clamber up to the top of the waterfall and (as Scott did) dangle your feet in it! This waterfall flowed on the river Tungufljót, which is fed by glaciers and other streams from the highlands of the interior of Iceland. The word 'fax' means mane, so I'd imagine somehow this waterfall reminded someone of a horse's mane, which wouldn't be surprising since Icelandic horses are one of the quintessential icons of Iceland.Read more
