Day 8

Leaving Amsterdam

And I thought the cycling would be the tough part! This morning's been an education...

Ran down platform with bike and just caught the metro to Central station. My train leaves in 45 minutes. Stood w bike for half an hour to keep it from rolling away. Then up an elevator to street level, and across to train station. T-10 minutes.

Scan ticket, go through the gate, down some stairs and oh sh*t-- the track I need to go to is up a level, and there's no elevator. T-5. Wrestle bike up an escalator (against the rules I'm sure) and get to track 2 minutes before train leaves.

Find bike car, take all bags off, drag everything to an open seat, collapse. I've an hour to chill till my transfer in Arnhem.

Feeling really thankful now for a kind conductor helping me navigate the 2-3 more trains to tonight's stop.

Tip to you, future traveler. DON'T take bike + train travel for granted. And don't do it on 4 hours sleep, and no coffee.Read more
