    June 6, 2019 in Albania ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Albania was closed off for years due to its dictatorship, however, the country, especially the capital, has been opening up since the end of Enver Hoxha's regime.
After a smooth border crossing we arrived in Tirana. We walked around in the centre, saw Tirana's pyramid which was built by Hoxha's daughter for his respect but not used for anything and what to do with it is still under debate. Bunkers have been left all over the the country and some of the bigger ones were turned into culture centres and museums. The main square is great for people watching and bars and cafes cover the whole city. The Art Museum is full of communist paintings, certainly unusual and nothing like we have seen before, a few old communist statues were dropped at the back as well. Really exciting and interesting city with its past and present.Read more
