Spaniards Bay back to St. John's

    August 10, 2015 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

Monday morning, raining pretty heavy! Our hosts Greg and Lorraine Miller fed us a great breakfast and Greg told us some history of the house. He also told us what to see on a scenic drive along HWy 60 back to St. John's. Mad Rock is at the tip of Spaniards Bay, went through Port au Graves - small fishing village and Hibbs Hole (now Cove). An original home and school are still there, though locked at the time. On through Cupid - first community settled by the english in North America in 1610. Lunch was at Cupid's Haven - built in 1914 is an Anglican Church, it is now a B&B and restaurant where we had fish cakes, baked beans and home made mac and cheese - yum! Pressing on through the rain (with sunny breaks now and then) we found our way along Hwy 60 and Conception Bay then back across the penninsula to St. John's and the Hampton Inn at the airport. Time to repack the bags and the walking sticks, finish the wine and enjoy the last stories with our great friends Janet and Don. Though the weather hasn't been what we would have ordered, it's been a great trip. The sun shone when we needed it to, beautiful scenery, a thousand photos and lots of laughs.Read more
