    Overnight in Geraldine

    April 21, 2011 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

After checking-in at the airport we found out that our flight had been delayed, we waited for more than two hours before getting on the plane. We finally arrived in Christchurh around 4pm, so it was 5:00 by the time we cleared customs and picked the car up from the Apex car rental depot.

Being Good Friday Public Holiday there weren't many choices for dinner so as advised by the staff at Apex we stop at The Hub Hornby mall where we got some Chinese take away, it was the only shop open by the way. The hub is conveniently located on the Main South road which eventually becomes State Highway 1 (SH1)

Along SH1 dusk was upon us so we didn't stop to check the big Salmon in Rakaia, which is sitting on a park just off the highway, our only stop was at a servo in Ashburton to get some water to drink, one hour has passed since we left Christchurch.

10 minutes pass Ashburton and we arrived to the junction where SH79 starts,I nearly missed the right turn onto SH 79 because the signs showing the detour seems to be sitting just 100m from the intersection so it is difficult to react coming at 100kph and at night, anyway maybe I was just tired

We finally arrived in Geraldine at 7pm, tired and hungry considering we left our beloved Gold Coast at 6 in the morning we headed to our motel. Just off the highway as you enter Geraldine we stayed at the Andorra motel, basic facilities, good price, helpful staff, overall good enough for a well deserved rest
