    Citadel outlet and Universal

    Last day in our trip.

    We started the morning with a nice breakfast and then leaving the bags with the concierge. We then re-fuelled the car and drove to Citadel outlet for another shopping around for the girls, nothing interested for me.

    After lunch we went to Universal City walk for some photos at the theme park and more last minute souvenir shopping

    At around 6 pm we picked up our bags and drove to the airport where we dropped the car and then got on the plane, which was two hours late.    Read more

    Hollywood and Santa Monica

     July 9, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

    Fist day in LA. We had a good breakfast at the hotel and then we headed out for the Hollywood sign. Eight years ago we took a photo of the sign from a particular place which I couldn't remember, we followed directions to 3000 Canyon drive, as suggested by a website however the place was for hiking, checking again the address in google maps is 3000 Canyon lake drive.

    Anyway, after some great photos we then drove to Hollywood to see the Walk of fame and all that stuff. Traffic was crazy because Sunset blvd was closed due to an event to promote that stupid Ghost buster reboot movie, on top of that they closed part of the footpath so it was hard to take good photos at the Walk of Fame and the Chinese Theater, not to mention trying to find a car park. We ended up having some McDonalds, buying souvenirs and then left to Santa Monica.

    Traffic was crazy again, nearly an hour from Hollywood to Santa Monica, again issues trying to find a carpark but many more options here. We strolled at the pier and had a rest on the beach.

    Las Vegas sign and driving to LA

     July 8, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

    Last day in Sin City, we checked out at 9am and went to pick up a rental car to drive to LA. We stopped at the "Welcome to Las Vegas" and then went to Norther Premium Outlets, where my wife and daughter spent some time shopping around, I should've gone to Hoover dam but thinking of the driving to LA discouraged me.

    As we had a late breakfast and were still full we left Las Vegas around 2:30 pm on our way to LA. A bit of traffic but the drive went, just one stop at Barstow for lunch and then we were at our hotel close to 7 pm. No much to do other than resting    Read more

    Las Vegas at night

    The heat in Vegas was just too intense and the pool was that crowded that we rested most of the day at our room. In the afternoon we went out, which is by the way what most of the people do anyway, We we walked along Las Vegas Boulevard along with thousands of people, checking hotels, souvenir bargains and drinking plenty of water.

    We stopped to checked Paris Las Vegas and New York, New York. We even walked across Brooklyn bridge, Las Vegas version. We also saw the Excalibur in the distance

    Sin City

     July 6, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

    Right, our Vegas experience started today. Coming that late last night meant that we did not get up until 10 am, luckily we noticed last night a Starbucks inside the hotel so we quickly rushed there for some breakfast. There are other restaurants but they are to upscale.... This time we realised that the only way to get in/out of the hotel is via the casino and all its countless pockie machines, pocker tables, etc.... not to mention the terrible smell of cigarette and god knows what else.

    Anyway after breakfast we tried the swimming pool.....well the only inch available in this super crowded pool. on top of that the sun was so intense that we only lasted 45 minutes or so there.

    We then went out to enjoy the sun......ah the sun, more intense that this perhaps at the Sahara. Anyway we had lunch at a little food court across the road and then went to the Venetian, mostly running away from the sun.

    What a difference, The Venetian had a big mall with plenty of shopping and dining options, not to mention the Gondolas and plazas.

    At night we first checked the Volcano explosion at the Mirage, the only positive thing we saw at this hotel, we then visited the Caesar Palace, again another paradise compared to the Mirage, and finally the Bellagio fountains show.    Read more

    Next stop Las Vegas

     July 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

    We did not get up to much today, just some last minute shopping and then off to the airport to catch our plane to Vegas. Unfortunately due to the 3 hrs difference in time there wasn't much to do once we got to Las Vegas (close to midnight).

    It was interesting to see pocking machines awaiting us at McCarran airport.......gambling is a serious industry here.

    We finally arrived at "The Mirage" close to 1 am, so tired that we barely noticed the casino on our way to our room.    Read more

    At Central Park

     July 4, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

    Being 4th of July there were lots of people on the street and also lots of policemen and security forces, a bit scary.

    We started the day by visiting the Lincoln centre before going to Central Park where incidentally a teen lost a foot yesterday due to a hand made grenade. Anyway there were lots of people enjoying the public holiday, strolling around, having picnics, riding bikes, etc. Beautiful day anyway, we joined the crowds and walk along.

    We ended up at the National Museum of Natural history but didn't get in as we are not really fond of museums, instead we headed back to Times square for some last minute shopping. I even have time to get a photo of the Chrysler building from Bryant park.    Read more

    Brooklyn bridge & top of the Rocks

     July 3, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    Yovanna was not feeling ok today so after a quick breakfast I headed out with Ximena to Brooklyn to have a look at the bridges.

    We took the line F of the Subway to York Station in Brooklyn, some 28 minutes. We then walked to the corner of Front and Washington street for that perfect photo of the Manhattan bridge along with the Empire State building I read in Tripadvisor.

    From there we walked to the East River shores for some great pics with both bridges.

    After some discussions we decided to walk the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan so we went to Prospect street where we started our walk. Amazing views along the way, plenty of photo opportunities. The bridge walk finished just a few metres from the Subway station so being really tired we went back to the hotel for some lunch and rest

    At night we went to the Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller centre for some splendid views of Manhattan skyline day/night + sunset.    Read more

    Statue of Liberty and Times square

     July 2, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

    We started the day with a quick breakfast and then on the Subway to South Ferry station. From there a quick walk took us to battery park and the Liberty cruises. The line to get on the boat wasn't that long at this time of the morning (9:30 am) so after going through some bag screening we boarded the boat. A short trip took us to Liberty Island, unfortunately we sat inside the boat and couldn't get any good pictures of the statue.

    At the island we walked along and took pictures of the statue from the base.

    Back on the boat we sat on the left side and this time we took nice pics of the statue. We went then passed by Ellis island, although we didn't get of the boat.

    Back in Battery park we walked to 9/11 memorial and then passed by Freedom Tower, the new tower adjacent the old location of the Twin towers.

    After some lunch in Maccas we went back to the hotel for some rest.

    Later that night we went to famous Time square for some photos and souvenirs. There were some street performers however the place was so packed with people that it was hard to move around.    Read more

    Sunset Cruise in the Hudson river

     July 1, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    Welcome to NYC !!!!!

    Unfortunately the weather wasn't that good today with some rain and thunderstorms later in the evening. We were physically exhausted anyway so we rested most of the day, planning the days ahead.

    In the evening we went to the sunset cruise of the Hudson river. It should have been a much better experience but the rain on & off partly ruined things, still a worthy experience.    Read more
