    School Handover Ceremony

    February 24, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

The Handover ceremony was bittersweet. At first, no one from the community showed up for the celebration and this was really disheartening for the crew. After many months of hard work, does the community appreciate the new schools? It's hard to say but what really matters is that the children have a safe and comfortable place to learn and grow. The schools are entrusted to a small group of teachers and principles who were sincerely appreciative and involved throughout the design and construction process.

Also at the close of the project, all the tools and construction supplies as well as the mattresses, bunk beds, and kitchen equipment/tables were put in a lottery to be distributed to the community as equally as possible. Clothes, towels, bedding were donated to a local orphanage and a high school. All other supplies and items from camp were quickly claimed and nothing went to waste in this community. Unfortunately the night before the lottery, all the power tools were stolen from the municipality.
