    Pass the Dutchie ... 🎵

    September 2, 2022 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Landed in Amsterdam and made our way down south to Vught to visit Meghan and Daniel and their fur kids in their new home.

Discovered the best sauce ever! Great pizza catch up evening. Spent the next day exploring Amsterdam before boarding the ship. Gorgeous city of canals and 9 million bicycles (oh wait, that's Beijing). Checked out Rijksmuseum and Dam Square as well.

Incredible weather and just perfect for Sundowners on board this exquisite vessel.
    Let the adventure begin!

    Mr Sexy Legs

    September 4, 2022 ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Quite honestly, the next 2 days on Board the ship were just 1 big party, that I forgot to take pictures!!

So many activities with this crew and way too many G&Ts and just a whole lot of fun. And the best part...nobody knows you on rhe ship so you can totally step out of your comfort zone! So proud of Karl for winning the Mr Sexy Legs competition (duh) and rocking those dance moves I taught him! 😉

Other highlights include cheese and wine pairing, speed pictionary, art seminar, gym with a view and the incredible Broadway show... Donna Summer 🥰

Oh, and did I mention Karl winning $211 on the Deal or no Deal show?

We haven't even explored the rest of the ship yet or disembarked tp visit another country.... loving everything this ship has to offer!

    Kiel

    September 5, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Docked at Kiel, Germany, and took a walk into the coastal town, specifically to find a Brauhaus for a German beer. Not the friendliest reception in this city... but hey.
Got a gorgeous view of the ship at night on our return...she is so pretty! And what a sunset!Read more

    Warnemunde

    September 6, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

So turns out, too much partying when you're still recovering from an orthoscopy, takes its toll. Had to cancel our trip to Berlin which would have been 12 hours!
Instead Karl went out to Rostock with Kyle and I spent the day on the ship, taking full advantage of me-time. And Megs and Daniel went to see a fairytale castle in the country side.

Also got to see the emergency drill... fully automated life boats take 350 people in each!

When he returned, soaked up the sun and dipped into the hot tub and sauna.

Took in a musical tribute to Whitney Houston by Ashleigh Amber.

Late night art auction and quick trip to the cheapie casino seats!

    Estonia

    September 8, 2022 in Estonia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

    Huge respect for this city!
It has literally crawled out of Russian domination for the last 50 years and turned itself around to become independent and the most digital city in the world!

We opted for the Medieval experience tour and visited the town of Rakvere to explore a 13th century castle.

They had us drinking Estonian vodka at 11h00 and then made us take a "road to hell" walk in the dungeon which, back in medieval times, was used to torture people!

Lunch was a medieval simple meal and when the noon day gun went off we shat ourselves when we realised we were only 100km away from Russia!

Made some new friends as you can see 🤣

But the prize for the after effects of the shitest vodka we've tasted goes to Karl for attempting to walk on medieval pole sticks 🤣 Gotta love this guy 🤟

The old city is BEAUTIFUL with its cobbled stones and quaint buildings, steeped in history.

But seriously, the Estonian countryside was beautiful! There are only 1.3M people. You get to see both the modern city as well as remnants of the Russian oppression.

In Winter, its worse temperature recorded is minus 30 degrees!

They hold song festivals every 5 years in their beautiful stadium. Public transport and education is free and their economy is saved by oil shale mines which heat power stations.

It's also the least religious country in Europe.

They export paper and timber and their agricultural produce can feed the whole country. There is only a 5% unemployment rate and the average monthly salary is 1700 euros per month.

Most poignantly, they have opened their borders to 55,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Back at the ship we had an unbelievable seafood meal at a specialty restaurant called Palomar and tried a new wine produced by Jon Bon Jovi and his son!

    Finland

    September 8, 2022 in Finland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Helsinki is beautiful! This country is made up of close to 300 islands, 188,000 lakes and is 2/3rds forest. It's language is closest to Estonian and Hungarian, education (including university) is free and includes all books and 1 meal a day for students.

We spent the morning cruising around some of the islands, some of which are inhabited by around 800 peeps and have their own school, churches etc. The others have dedicated functions. For example, theres a massive Youth Organisation on one and in another, there is an entire island for the naval school The red building on the island is JUST the sauna for all of them!

Speaking of saunas, when Finnish people build their homes, they build their saunas first.
There are 3million suanas in Finalnd and 5.5 million inhabitants... so that means there's room for just about everyone to get into one 🤣

Climate change definitely a thing here. 10 years ago in winter the thickness of the ice was 30cm, today its down to around 5cm.
But it's still pristine and clean with 49 bird species, flying squirrels, foxes amd of course bears. Bears are their national animal and are still responsible for many car accidents. PS it takes 8 hours to boil bear meat apparently before it is edible! There are 300,000 reindeer and every year is September they kill 100,000 of them😪

We then drove through the town, taking in the sights, which included the famous Sebellious sculpture, the great music composer. Saw an automatic pizza truck that spits out pizza in 3 mins!

Stopped for Finnish bear at ARMADILLO restaurant. Chosing off a menu is uhm... problematic.... and includes Reindeer hotdogs! Oh and interesting car number plates 😄

    Sweden

    September 9, 2022 in Sweden ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

What an incredible city! I could totally live here.... well maybe not in the winter when its only 2 degrees F! As Karl put it, Stockholm is the Paris of the Nordics!

10.4M peeps and 2M live in Stockholm. Did you know its made up of 14 islands and 96,000 lakes!

This is the land of Greta Garbo, Elk, Moose, dynamite, Vikings, Alfred Nobel (who started the Nobel prizes) and of course ABBA!

Visited the Old Town section (particularly Gamlastan) where Viking remnants appear on the walls. Absolutely gorgeous city with the right balance of old world and ultra modern first world. Passed by the famous little statue of the boy who looks at the moon. Rubbing his head amd placing down a coin is good luck supposedly..... guess they're right!

Saw the Avicii arena which hosts some of the largest concerts in the world. As well as the building where they host the banquet and ball for 1300 nobel prize attendees.

Got to learn about FIKA. It's the Swedish way of life which involves taking a break for a coffee or pastry or drink. Tasted their traditional cinnamon and vanilla pastries which were to die for!

There is a female President and still a Roatal family

First ice bar in the world

A Porra and a Viking walk into a bar

    September 9, 2022 in Sweden ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Just had to do the ICE BAR in Stockholm! They provide mitts and a poncho.
The first ice bar in the world. Set at a delightful -5 degrees, we had such a blast with our freezing vodka drink! Allowed to stay in for only 25 minutes, which we did. Couldn't feel my fingers, but the Viking at my side, only had a beanie and walked around taking photos with bare hands 😲

Then off to the Vasa museum, the most visited maritime museum in the world to visit a real 17th Century VIKING boat, which lay under the sea for almost 400 years.
Brought to life over 17 years.....98% of the ship on display is its original wood! Interestingly, the Baltic Sea only has 2% salt, which helped in its preservation

Just incredible! Great to see some of Karl's heritage!

    Deck 17

    September 13, 2022, Baltic Sea ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Took full advantage of the mif weather outside whilst at sea and tried out the VR and games section on the 17th deck.

That funny tube thing you see on the side of the ship, is a dry slide. Basically you climb into a body bag and go sliding at high speed down the twists and turns.

VR was insane, along with go-carting,mini golf, fuseball, ping pong in a cylinder, shuffleboard, bullseye darts .... the list goes on and on...

    Denmark 🇩🇰

    September 13, 2022 in Denmark ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Docked in Copenhagen, our final destination of the cruise. Arrived with zero expectation and was totally blown away by this city!

The architecture, the character, the colour and the energy are all off the charts!
This is the home of Hans Christian Andersen Lego and Herring This city has only 645,000 inhabitants between 20 and 29 years old! So a very young population and mostly female.

Had to have a Copenhagen (pastry) in Copenhagen with unbelievable coffee at Lagkagehuset! Explores the city and took in its most popular sites.... Tivoli's beautiful gardens and amusement park (the 2nd oldest in the world) Strøget street and Christiansborg castle.

Ended the day with a Danish beer along the canal in picturesque Nyhavn. Overnight at the quirkiest hotel: 25hours hotel!

Oh and forgot to post the unforgettable tepenyaki dinner with our singing chef who had us in stitches!

What an incredible trip this has been. What a privilege to see the world and spend time with the kids.... so grateful to Karl for the massive spoil❤️ So glad he got to see some of his heritage. But most importantly, this trip has brought us closer together as a family 😊
