    Bellerive

    December 26, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

This village is just beautiful 💜💜💜 We are in the Greater Hobart Area in the city of Clarence. It was first settled in the 1820's and was known as Kangaroo Point, it became Bellerive in the 1830's, meaning 'beautiful river bank'. Kangaroo Bluff has a point where a British fortress, Kangaroo Battery was built in 1885 and is now a public park.

I had a bit of a walk around the village and took some photographs. I was particularly interested in the old Bellerive Post Office building from 1897 which now houses the Tasmanian Genealogical Society and the Sound Preservation Museum.

Given its maritime history, where boats would travel across the Derwent River, the village has a nautical feel. I love it here and Hobart is my favourite city in Australia.
