    Yeppoon

    We have travelled further north and have now crossed The Tropic of Capricorn so we are in the Tropics. You could tell when we arrived as the temperature was 37 deg C and quite humid.
    We are actually at Cooee Bay which is next to a scenic bit of coastline which we are going to explore whilst here. The Bay looks out to Kepple Island, a few miles off shore, which is a magnet for day trippers and back packers. We may go another time as we are doing some similar islands further up the coast next week.
    We wandered into Yeppoon this afternoon to get a feel for the place and to review the splendid new swimming lagoon which has an infinity edge looking directly onto the beach and over to Kepple Island. It was still baking hot so we took some cooling down at a fabulous ice cream cafe.
    The bird life here is abundant with lorikeet and kookaburras chattering all around us.
    We took a trip along the coast to wreck point and to Emu Park which is a small village to the south backing a fine beach. At Emu Park there is an Anzac memorial which is very moving and the singing ship which is a memorial to Captain Cook who dropped anchor here and named the islands in 1770.
    We spent some time on the beach doing some fishing. Karen caught a snapper which we returned to the water. On the way out of Emu Park Karen spied a craft shop where she found some nice Australian fabrics to add to the collection
