Kyleakin

We had a look at the memorial to the Commando forces which is located near Spean Bridge - much of the WW2 commando training was undertaken in the area. Ben Nevis in the background was still under a cloud.
We took the inland road to the Isle of Skye through Glen Garry with its lochs and high mountains - very beautiful.
Passing over the bridge at the Kyle of Lochalsh we found a spot to stay adjacent to the loch side in the village of Kyleakin. An old fort dating back to the 13th century was a short walk through the village.
The bridge, completed in 1995, replaced the ferry service to the mainland opposite so the village is very peaceful.
It is here that Gavin Maxwell lived where he looked after wild otters, in the village and the lighthouse.Read more
