    Chester

    December 1, 2019 in Wales ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

We spent three nights at Chester, arriving early afternoon after a leisurely drive up from Birmingham.
We stayed on a farm site to the west of the city and walked into the centre of the town on two days along the River Dee - the northern end of the Wales Coastal Path.
The City is charming with a long history stretching back to the Romans. The heart of the City is surrounded by ancient City Walls and there are some wonderful old buildings remaining. The Christmas market in front of the cathedral was in full swing with familiar wares on sale as the others we have been visiting.
We walked the city walls one day which are well preserved and intact, they offered interesting views of the city and its immediate environs.
Outside the city walls lie the ancient race course and canals linking Chester to Elsmere Port and to Wolverhampton via the Shropshire Union Canal.
