    Wallarah

    February 9, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 21 °C

Gina, Paul and Ellie were there to greet us at Wallarah where we were able to erect the tent inside a barn on Andy and Toni's plot. This was great news - expecting a very wet tent we were surprised to find that the puddles on the canvas had remained as puddles which ran off as we re-erected it. Some dampness had got through but not as much as we anticipated.
On arrival at Andy and Toni's we noticed that a tree had fallen on some overhead electrical wires - as a consequence the street had no power. As our tent aired off under the barn roof the rain continued to fall very very heavily for a further 24 hours. Andy set up a generator in the barn to power the house until the power was reinstated. We slept in the main house that night and enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon and evening with everybody.
The BBC forecast suggested that the rain would go offshore by 8 am the following day so we were hopeful that we had survived the worst of the weather.
Massive thank you to Andy and Toni for their assistance and hospitality.
G, P and Ellie were on good form and it was so good to catch up with their news. We left with a thought to return to NZ next year to meet up again.
