Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukika, Lake Wallam

    October 19, 2016 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Fueled up the car in Ashburton (34lts/$43). Traveled inland to Lake Tekapo today and then stopped on the way to Twizel at a campground near Lake Pukaki. Cool start to the morning this morning but the sun was out and no wind. On route we stopped at a a little place called Farm Barm Cafe. It was near a lookout that looked over to the snow mountains of Mt Cook.
We continued onto Lake Tekapo to have a look at the lake. We stopped at the old church on the lake but didn't stay long as the wind was blowing really stong here and it was not very pleasant. Headed off again to lake Pukaki at a campground nearby the canal. We would have stayed by the lake but it was too windy. The campground we stayed at was more protected by pine trees and we were able to have a fire going. The canal apparently has fish in it and you are allowed to fish with a permit. A fella travelling from Blenhem said you need a fishing permit to fish. You can get a day pass for fishing.
