On my way back to Bowood, and I stopped to take pictures of the white horse (and the village sign for Crompton Bassett)
I then went off to see the Avenue, which runs from Avebury towards the long barrow. It's pretty amazing to drive down a country road and to suddenly see all these standing stones in a field. FromRead more
Then off to the Sanctuary. The building which they think was here was about 12 foot tall and so would have been seen from the nearby long barrow. There were also about 6 round barrows here too.
So, made my way up the hill to the long barrow. What an amazing place! To think, it's been there over 5,500 years ( well before I was born!). Its been excavated, and opened so that we can look inside.Read more

Managed to get as far as the hill, but decided to do the long Barrow tomorrow.
Stopped to grab some breakfast in this lovely village. Fabulous bakery, where Stu enjoyed a steak pasties. He keeps going on about it, so it must have been good!!
