Day 471: Great Mine of Falun

    May 31, 2018 in Sweden ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Another decent sleep, though it's unseasonably warm and we're getting spoiled by that I think! Left our campsite around 8:30am and headed straight to the WHS at Falun - the Great Copper Mountain. This mine is apparently where 70% of the world's copper has come from, though it's no longer in use.

We had a look around the huge pit, though we dodged the museum since it was full of school kids. The buildings in town are also on the WH list for their contribution to architecture and the way the town was laid out during its Renaissance heyday, so we had a look around there as well.

But again, it's not a huge site and we were largely finished off by lunchtime. Decided to drive up the road to a town called Rattvik which we'd heard was quite popular. Found a nice lakeside campsite and settled in for the afternoon.
