    Bridal Veil Falls

    December 9, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

My last Stopp before Raglan was at the Bridal Veil Falls, called to be the most beautiful waterfall in Waikato.
At he is definitely living up to his nickname!
What an impressive waterfall! I went all the way down to the bottom, which was easy. They way up again, was not 🙈😂
    But I made it! 💪🏼
Gonna have a lot of pain in my muscles tomorrow, I already feel it now 😂

As tired as I was I decided to go straight to the campground from here. Really nice campground, directly beside the beach 🤗
If just the wind would be less and not so cold 🙈
But this actually doesn’t affect me so much anymore! I don’t miss to sleep in a tent when it’s blowing!!! 😉

    Te Toto Gorge

    December 10, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After a calm morning at the campground with some washing and reading on the beach, I went to Te Toto Gorge to move a little bit what would hopefully help with the pain in my muscles from yesterday...

This area here is really beautiful everywhere you are looking around!
The road to Te Toto Gorge was really narrow and I had to drive extremely slowly and carefully but I had an amazing view over the Tasman sea and the land around 😊
On the way back I Stopp on many different lookouts and beaches, watched the surfers for a while at Whale Bay!

Then it was more than time to think about lunch.
I heard a lot about a place called The Wharf and that they should sell the best fish and chips in the country.
I can with no doubt say, it was definitely the best fish and chips I have been eating so far! 😊
And more than enough for dinner as well!

  • Day 11

    Piha Beach

    December 11, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today I was leaving Raglan again and headed back north to Auckland. I was hoping to do a Canyoning Trip here but unfortunately, they didn't have any more bookings so they had to cancel the trip in the end.
I stopped in Manukau for some shopping, I bought some flynets so I can sleep alone in my car but can still leave some windows open. 😊

After that I let a guy check my tires as I have noticed, that the steering wheel is vibrating quite much when I drive around 100km/h.
Good decision, the left front wheel was a little bit wobbly so the change it. Now I can't feel any vibrions anymore 😊
After that, I hit the road to get to Piha Beach! This must be paradise, or at least really close to it! The campground is just a 5 min walk away from the beach 😎🤗

  • Day 12

    Karekare Waterfall and Karekare Beach

    December 12, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

After a relaxed morning, I went to Karekare to see the waterfall and the beach there.
The road there was an experience 😳 Luckily I never met someone 🙈
Already by driving down the road to the waterfall I was thinking about how the hell I should come up here again 🙈😂

At least the waterfall was soo much worth it! It's like a little paradise there. As I was alone there I was standing there for a while and just enjoying it 😊

After that, I went to the beach, which is just a 15 min walk away from the waterfall.

The beach is really big and not as crowded as Piha beach, I saw 6 other people while I was there 😉
It's called one of the most dangerous beaches in New Zealand and they recommend only to swim there when Lifeguards are at the beach.
So I was more than happy with a walk over the beach 😎

  • Day 12

    Blowhole and Taitomo Island

    December 12, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

As I needed to wait for low tide to go and explore some part of the beach I had a relaxing lunch and afternoon on the campground, reading a book and doing nothing. When it was finally low tide I went to the beach to discover the so-called blowhole, even though it more likely a tunnel through the stone. As the water hasn’t gone away on the other side the waves were pushing water through the tunnel constantly.

At the end of the beach was a small “swimming pool” and you can climb up on the rocks to look into a cave and then even climb up onto the Taitomo Rock or Island. It’s an Island by high tide.

I went up only halfway, it was a really steep and tricky path so I was satisfied with the view from there! The way down was even more tricky than the way up 🙈
    But I made it!

After that, it was time to go back to the campground as my stomach told me it was more than time to get something to eat 😂

  • Day 13

    Kitekite Falls

    December 13, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

For today I planned to visit the Kitekite Falls.
I could choose from different walking tracks there so I decided to take one track to the falls and the other one back to the car park! From the first track, I could turn off to walk up to the top of the waterfall! Many stairs to climb up, but so worth it again! This waterfall seems to fall in many stairs as there is a small pool underneath each drop! It will be interesting to see it from below!
The walk down was easy as the path I very good and it's mostly stairs I didn't need to look out for every single step I am doing.

The waterfalls are really impressive to look at from the bottom. It is safe to swim in the pool there but it's not so warm jet, so I saw no one swimming in there. 😉

On the way back was a really nice viewing platform from where you could see almost the whole waterfall. From the bottom, you can't see the first two ”stairs” of the waterfall!

After that, I went back for a calm afternoon on the campground to wait for the low tide again, as I planned to climb up on the Lion Rock today.
It is very cloudy today and it was just before I want to go to the lion rick starting to get better and more and more sun was coming through the clouds! So I could actually do the walk in nice weather!
Shortly after it was already getting very cloudy again and it's starting to look more and more like it's going to rain, as it also did during the night and early morning.

  • Day 14

Upper Nihotupo Walk and MT Eden

    December 14, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Today it's time to travel to Auckland!
The first stop was at the Upper Nihotupo Walk. This walk takes a little more than 1 hour. I walked through a nice forest, passing two nice waterfalls to a big dam. This lake is a water resource for Auckland. It was a really nice and easy walk and a good start in the day.

After that, I went to Auckland and after wasting so much time searching for a parking place, I climbed up on Mount Eden to enjoy the amazing view over the whole city. Unfortunately, it was still quite cloudy but the view was really nice even like this! On a day with good weather, it must be amazing!

After that, I went to the campground and used the afternoon to get some stuff fixed before I went out for my evening adventure 🤗

  • Day 14

    Alexander Park

    December 14, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

After a short drive to Alexander Park, the first problem was again, find a parking place! 🙈
As it's a big day today with big races, it was not so easy but I found one, and this one was turning out to be perfect as it was closed to the parking place for the horse trucks and I was on the way to the track running into David, the trainer from Australia I spend some days with last year and also Marika boss! He got really happy to see me 😊

He told me that he was waiting for the horses and Marika to come as they are supposed to be here any minute.
So we were standing and talking a bit until they were coming. Thanks to them I got a ticket for the stable area and could walk to and from the stable area as I wanted! Nice!
After walking with Big Jack Hammer and fixing the stuff, Marika was showing me around, introduced me to some people and explained to me how everything is going to be!
Its mostly the same in Australia, with some small difference.
    I had a great evening!
The horse on the first picture is New Zealand’s best trotter over the years! He was winning over 1,5 million dollars and is a real star here!
He was leading the parade for the Interdominion Final for trotters.
This was also the race big Jack Hammer was racing in. I really do t like to run the wrong way, as they do here. He really struggled with it already through the 3 qualification heats but managed anyway to come to the final.
So they didn’t expect so much from this race today.

So they there satisfied with his 7th place as he actually did what he could with his struggle to get around the track the wrong way!

The final in the Interdominian Pacing Race was really exciting as it got really close in the end, but the big favorite, who already won all three! qualification heads managed to keep his head in front!

I had a really nice evening with friends and awesome horses! 😊

  • Day 15

    Auckland

    December 15, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

For today my plan was to discover Auckland. After a good breakfast, I went into the city. I had a really hard time finding a parking place.
And as I will find out later, my choice was really bad 😳

I went to a Backpacker hostel first as I was hoping, that my registration papers for my car were already coming. Unfortunately, they were not, but the friendly staff told me, that they could send them to another address in New Zealand when they get them. Now I just needed to find out an address.

After that, I went to the harbor. Unfortunately, they are building everywhere in Auckland and especially around the harbor. So it was hard to go around and see something. 😕
I then went back to the city. As I was walking around a big black cloud was coming in and it got darker and darker with every minute.
I then decided that I go back to the campground as I just can’t connect with the city at all and didn’t feel for getting wet.

The rest of the day I spend at the campground. It didn’t rain as much as expected but I don’t regret my decision as the parking ticket was really expensive 😱😱

  • Day 16

    Mangaweka

    December 16, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

For today I planned to drive south. I was lucky to book a quite cheap ticket for the Interislander Ferry on Tuesday afternoon. Most tickets are very expensive, like 330$, but I got one of the last ones for 177$ 🥳🤗
Even though this means, that I will have quite many hours of driving in front of me today and a little bit more tomorrow it was the best decision. It’s going to be really bad weather everywhere on the North Island today and tomorrow, so what could I do better than drive around to finally come to the South Island.

I passed again by the Hostel in Auckland, as I ask a family I’ve met last time if I could get them to send the letter to them, what was absolutely no problem at all! So my plan was to just leave a paper with the address there but surprisingly they had my paper there! So I got them instead and don’t need to think about it anymore! Perfect!
As I was thinking of I could give Auckland one more go, it started raining... So I went straight back to my car to hit the road and get out of Auckland.
It should not Stopp raining for a couple of hours. In between, it was raining so much that I Stopp beside the road and was waiting for the worst to pass over.
Extremely bad was it while I was passing the Tongariro National Park.

As I came closer to my final destination for today the rain got less and less and the sky got a little bit brighter.
Luckily it was only a couple of small shower during the evening.
I spent the night in Mangaweka a small town closed to Palmerston North.
It took me a total of 6 hours from Auckland to come here due to the weather conditions mostly.
