    Scorpion temple

    May 8, 2017 in Myanmar ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

After about an hour drive we reached the next point on our day tour which was called th Scorpion temple. We first of had got some great views over to the other side of the border where Myanmar was.

In the temple we got explained by our guide, that the scorpion has been a present of a former king. The (artificial) monks sitting along the wall are some of the most respected and wise monks ever lived in Thai and they been apparently pretty close to the target of living a good life.

We also got explained that every man in Thailand is supposed to be a monk at least once in his life, but not more than three times, as you would have to decide at some stage what you really want. Most of the men seem to take the monk time for a better education which they wouldn't get in their countryside villages.

It was interesting to hear that you can decide yourself how long you want to be a monk. If it would be only for a week, a year, a decade or your whole life... So the Buddhism appear to be a very "relaxed" religion in terms of free will.
