    Lithica

    May 1, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

It was a bit of a rainy day so we first went to the Artisan Centre of Menorca which was a great exhibition of all the main artisan crafts. The top craft was the carpenters who make the traditional gates from wild olive wood. After that we headed to Lithica, an old limestone quarry that has been turned into a garden/sculpture park. We were first presented with a view into one of the machine-worked quarries which has totally vertical sides... and then we wandered towards the old quarries where nature had taken over again. The experience was labyrinthine and delightful... a bit like a cross between being in the secret garden and being in an archaeological remain. We kept discovering new little secrets; fountains, almond trees, the medieval garden. We finally went into the base of the machine worked quarries: one of which had an actual labyrinth made of stone and the other was a concert hall. Altogether a great visit for a non-beach day.Read more
