    Cinque Terre 1, Italy

    August 17, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

We've arrived in Vernazza to a cute little apartment overlooking the fishing bay. There are five villages along the Liguria Coast, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso that make up Cinque Terre. I knew I wanted to hike the villages but unfortunately most of the trails were closed due to landslips and overuse. I set off from Vernazza and decided to walk to Monterosso which happened to be the most challenging walk of the four trails! From Monterosso, I continued on to Mesco and finally Levanto. This was one of the hardest walks I've ever done and I battled my way through the rocky terrain, hundred of stairs and 28 degree heat. When I made it to Mesco, the view was unbelievable and photos just don't do it justice. You can clearly see all five villages along the coastline each with their own individual architecture and character. There was no one else up on the peak with me so it was truly peaceful and another "pinch me" moment where I had to think about how lucky I am to be living the life I live. I made my way down to Levanto for a much needed swim, water and Powerade after walking over 17km and 183 flights of stairs. This was so so challenging and I could have easily given up but I'm so glad I pushed through the pain and finished what I'd set out to do!Read more
