    San Jose

    March 13, 2018 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Our shuttle left Manuel Antonio at 8am this morning for San Jose. We had our last Costa Rican breakfast (gallo pinto) of rice and beans, eggs and plantains.

We got to our hotel just before 1pm. The traffic coming in was insane. Bumper to bumper traffic crawling.

We went for a bite to eat and walked to a few shops down the road and a mall which was nothing much.

Hanging out around the hotel. Our airport shuttle will pick us up at 5:25 am tomorrow and we fly out at 7:55.

    Last day at Manuel Antonio

    March 12, 2018 in Costa Rica ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

Manuel Antonio is quieter today as the park is closed on Mondays. We hung out at the public beach in the morning for a bit. It is Tracy's birthday today. We went back to the Rico Tico Jungle Grill to eat and have a few drinks and see our favourite waiter, Cesar. As long as you have a drink they let you go into the pool. We spent the afternoon hanging out in the pool with a few drinks chatting with the other guests.

For the evening we went to a restaurant called El Avion. Their pub which is attached to the restaurant is an old cargo plane. The plane has a history in that it was part of a big scandal in the 80's under the Reagan administration.

As our shuttle leaves tomorrow at 8:00 am for San Jose, it is an early evening tonight.

    This Afternoon

    March 11, 2018 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

After the park, we took the local bus downtown to find an ATM. We looked in some shops and went for refreshments and a bite to eat at Rico Tico Jungle Grill which had an amazing view. There was a pina colada, passionfruit daquiri and then a mango daquiri which our waiter brought in a plastic cup and encouraged us to go in the pool. Luckily I had my bathing suit on under my clothes so I went for a quick swim.

We came back to our room exhausted around 7pm.

    Manuel Antonio National Park Frog

    March 11, 2018 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We were almost finished walking in the park when I felt something cold and slimy on the back of my knee. I screamed and looked down. There was a frog on the back of my leg! I shook it off. We took pictures to check with the park rangers to make sure it was not poisonous. Luckily it wasn't.

    Manuel Antonio National Park

    March 11, 2018 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Today we went for breakfast at a soda and had a really good Costa Rican breakfast. Their traditional breakfast is gallo pinto (rice and beans) and eggs. We ate the Costa Rican breakfast everyday in La Fortuna and it was good to eat it again. Sometimes you get plantains which we did today. The nice soda guy made us a ham and cheese sandwich and fruit container of watermelon, papaya and pineapple to take into the park. You can only take a sandwich and fruit into the park. They check your bags after you pay to enter to make sure you are not bringing anything else into the park.

We spent almost five hours in the park walking the trails. Our lunch tasted so good after all the walking. There are many trails to walk. There are also some beautiful beaches.

    Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio

    March 10, 2018 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Today we left Montezuma for Manuel Antonio National Park. The mode of transportation was a water taxi and a shuttle van. The water taxi ride took about an hour to Jaco. We saw dolphins on the way and the boat stopped so we could watch them.

From Jaco, it was a shuttle van for another 1.5 hrs. I fell asleep on the way and awoke as we were driving in to the park. Manuel Antonio is incredible! It is also very hot! Today was 34 degrees but it feels so much hotter. I walked around the park a bit by myself as Tracy was having a shower. I found a nice shady spot under a tree. A park person came up to me and told me I need to be careful where I sit as the monkeys can knock the coconuts down and hit me in the head. So much for that nice shady spot. l have already seen monkeys, sloths and iguanas.

Tonight we went out for pizza and a few drinks. We took a cab and then tried to walk back but we ended up going 3km in the wrong direction so we decided to stop somewhere and call a cab when we realized we were going the wrong direction. On the walk we saw two sloths on the power lines, a short while later we saw another one. That was exciting for me as I really wanted to see a sloth. Looking forward to seeing more animals tomorrow.
