    Circling -

    July 27, 2016 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Heading out to the Ring of Kerry. Today we have jaunty car ride and Irish traditional music and drama.s

Photo is of Killarney Cathedral. Catholic

Peninsula is known as Ring of Kerry. Loved the long avenues of trees as we drive down the road. Photos taken at Aghadoe Heights. Henry reckons that everything goes in circles in Ireland people included.

Green fields line the roads a very pretty area, reminiscent of dairy land at home with hedging. KILLORGLIN Sean driver's home. Have festival of King Puck goat over 3 days. Special stand for fair. Horses are traded during this time with lots of tinkers coming.

As you travel around you see the abandoned ruins, as a result quite often of the famines. Glenbagh village over looked by Monks head hill.

    Ferry Crossing Dingle Coastline

    July 27, 2016 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Today has turned out wet and very misty. We left the hotel early to catch the ferry over to the Dingle Peninsula. The ferry is a roll of and off one as this is only a half hour trip. Seas have been kind so far. The Peninsula is apparently amazing in fine weather but today let the tour guide down since spite of his wearing a tie.

We crossed the Shandon river and we're told about the Liberator, Danny O'Connell who fought for equality of faith as the Catholics could not own land. On to County Claremont. Just an aside, this morning I was delighted to see and hear a yearling in the car park. A lady in high heels was helping to corrale it! Fun to watch her.

Having got myself thoroughly confused I think it was at Camp we had morning tea. Had a very relaxing Irish coffee. The pub was a real oldie style one with peat fire going, low beams and bench tale setting up great atmosphere. Lunch was in Dingle and had lovely piece of code in beer type batter. So light and crispy. Dingle is a delightful, touristy town of colour and the estates ice ream parlours.

As you drive through the roads the hedges glow with the red of wild fusion. Very pretty. The roads are mainly one way as you travel the coast line. Exciting drivng for driver. One one road we lost part of a mirror as the trees come out over the road. The next mishap occurred as we left the cliffs of the Peninsula onto easier roads and around the corner on the wrong side came a car, apparently blithely unaware of taking on a huge coach. Good driving and scraping the side of the bus got us through, but for rest of trio we had a buzzer telling us that the storage doors were not shut.

Along the coastal drive you see the old be hive houses atop the cliffs which drop down 100 plus feet below the road. A little unnerving to drive along. My photos have ever plenty of Irish mist just to remind me where we are.

    Lost info.

    July 25, 2016 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Seems like my photos and notes have disappeared into the ether. Bother. Carrying on with this evening we have just been to the most amazing show. It easy a medieval banquet at Ban ratty Castle. The evening stars with a greeting foment the Butler and you really welcomed into the castle.proceeding up the spiral staircase you are offered a mulled wine as you are entertained by medieval musicians. Beautiful singing. Announcements are made and then everyone goes down to the banqueting hall to partake in a meal. The soup is in bowls minus the spoon so you sjplurp it up, this followed by spare ribs eaten with a sharp knife and fingers. The main was chicken with veges and lastly an apple dessert. Through all of this is entertainment.Read more

    Sligo on

    July 25, 2016 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Seem to have lost all transcripts from Glasgow to now. Going on to Galway. This area was severely hit by the Potato famine. Many families were evicted and the only choice was immigration. Faith in God was very strong. Knock people had a vision. Monsignor of area had a vision of airport to bring pilgrims. Provides life line in and out of area.

The photos are of various places along the way to now. In Belfast the walls are frequently covered in graffiti art. They are a comment usually on the social and political situation in Ireland. Another is of the Belleek Pottery. The weather here has been wet the last few days and seems set to continue. My Australian travel companions are finding it quite cold, particularly those from up Cairns way!

    Back to the Hotel

    July 21, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Had a lovely break at Ullapool. Lunch was Ullapool, smoked salmon by that name. A delightful village to amble around. The red ball in the second photo is an old mine we think.
