      A trip round the city

      February 23, 2020 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Second and last day in Buenos Aires exploring via open top bus. We came across an eco park which was a pleasant surprise and did not expect to see giraffe and elephants in the city. Had a delicious sushi lunch and had a stroll round the japenese gardens. Not a bad day and 25 degrees #quiteburnt☀️Read more

      Buenos Aires : la Boca

      December 30, 2022 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

      Buenos Aires

      May 7, 2023 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We enjoyed another chilled out morning before Daniel and Gab had a yummy breakfast out at a cafe near the centre of Buenos Aires.

Some of the group then got in Ubers to the La Boca area of Buenos Aires which is the southern most point of the metropolitan area.
Here we went on a tour of the La Boca area, famous for the soccer club Boca Juniors where many famous Argentine soccer players have come from and for its street art. Today was an extra special day because Boca were playing crosstown rivals River Plate away (and near impossible to get tickets!) and so the tour would conclude with us watching the match at a local pub.

Joy, our local tour guide, took us around Boca where we saw the street and murals as well as the Boca home ground. One of the murals which we saw was for the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo who were a group of people who formed in protest against the military dictatorship in the 1970s which resulted in mass human rights abuses including the disappearance of thousands of children who were taken away from their mothers.

Joy told us where was safe to walk around in La Boca (a "safety triangle" of around 3 blocks). We had some free time where we tried the local choripan (chorizo sandwich) - yum! We also bought a (kids) La Boca shirt which was the equivalent of around $10 - Gab wore it for the rest of the day! We also walked around and saw the awesome colourful main streets. The colourful houses are thanks to Benito Quinquela Martín who was a very famous artist who grew up in the area and his paints from his workshop were used by local people to paint their houses!

We then boarded a local bus to the pub where we had some drinks before watching the game. The atmosphere at the pub was awesome (lots of singing and dancing throughout the game, and even a trumpet player!) Unfortunately La Boca lost 1-0 with a last minute penalty (and 4 red cards in the last 10 minutes!)

We then went to a bar after the match for some more drinks and food before going to a night club in Palermo (the Northern part of Buenos Aires). At the club, they started with RNB music and then a live band played for a bit. We got an uber home and got to bed around 2am.

      La Boca

      May 18, 2023 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Read more

      Futbol, Tango y Arte

      September 2, 2023 in Argentina ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

La Boca, an intriguing blend of football fervor, the birthplace of tango, and an artistic hub, offers a unique fusion of passions. It's a place where you can't separate football from daily life – it's practically a religion here.

One of the standout features of La Boca is "El Caminito," a little street brimming with vibrant colors, and it owes its lively appearance to a visionary named Quinquela. He believed that despite their economic hardships, the residents didn't have to live in dull surroundings. So, they started using leftover paint from the port's ships to paint their houses, creating a spectacular and uplifting spectacle of color.

Speaking of vibrant cultural origins, La Boca is where the soul-stirring tango was born. This dance and music style have a rich history intertwined with the influx of immigrants into this area. The close-knit communities in the tenement houses fostered an environment where different cultures blended, giving birth to the passionate and expressive art form of tango. We'll delve deeper into the fascinating world of tango in the coming days.

      La Boca

      October 25, 2023 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

This neighborhood is famous for his brightly colored houses, tourists, tango and sketchy night life. Full of stalls and shops all selling the same things (mugs, magnets, and football jerseys). I had lunch at a restaurant that had Tango dancers on a stage who performed while we ate. Not like a Medieval Times Dinner Theater in California, just two people doing the Tango while we ate. It was really fun to watch and eat. I felt like I my $10.00 USD meal was worth it.
I saw some other people eating who had a BBQ thing on their table with meat, I’ll have to work out what it is and give it a try.

      Buenos Aires; La Boca

      December 8, 2023 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The neighbourhood (barrio) of La Boca is one of the most colourful and popular areas to visit in Buenos Aires because it has the Caminito, a recently developed area which has been brought to life by a local artist. La Boca is mostly known, however, for being home to the Boca Juniors, one of the two largest football teams in Argentina.

Our walk brings us the football stadium first and then on to Caminito, where we "see the sites" before reaching the river. It is an incredible place to visit.

Then it is the long walk back to the hostel and some RnR before dinner.

      Citytour😎

      March 7 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Aaah die Witze mit: „Thats what she/he said“ nahmen überhand😂. Read more

      La Boca & Boca juniors!

      March 26 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Ο david.
