Der Weg nach Coral Bay führte uns über Stock und Stein, durch Flüsse und Sanddünen. Von der Quobba Station nahmen wir einen 4x4 Track der Küste entlang Richtung 14 Mile Beach (wir hatten für 27km ganze 2h) und von dort führte uns ein Weg durch eine Sanddüne zum Five Fingers Reef. Beim Five Fingers Reef gingen wir zum ersten Mal schnorcheln.Read more

They just can’t help themselves. Every arvo they pop out for a quick squid!

Last night they needed ‘bait’ and then supplied the backpackers with dinner.

This morning they needed some more bait and then feed another 2 couples who are staying on the beach.

Then tonight they needed more bait! They plan on doing lots of fishing at Gnaraloo and they also got some squid for the freezer.Read more

Oceanfront camping on the Ningaloo coast. WA parkstays $ 8 pet person self contained.

12 KLM off road drive into this campers paradise. Down with tyre pressure 20 psi for 40 KPH speed gave us a safe and comfortable run in. We had site 36, in the dunes which was ok, recommend site 5 for next stay.

Caravans set up along the beach, small craft boating to the reef break about 1 nautical mile off the beach.Read more

The boys took me out squiding today, and on my first cast I caught this monster. While I was waiting for Brett to net the squid, Brax had already caught a squid and as he lifted in the boat he squirted its ink all over me and the boat, I was coated from my toes to my hat and so was most of the boat 😂😂. It was so much fun and very action packed, as we were all catching squid after squid.

Then it was off to find a spot to fish. When we were in Carnarvon, both of the kids bought themselves new fishing rods and they were very keen to try them out. We found a spot and both boys got onto the cod, unfortunately they were not keepers today.

Brett and I were both feeling a bit sick after being in the boat so it was time to head in.Read more

Apparently, Brett and Shaun are spango kings now 😂😂, not that Kat and I are complaining 😋.

5 of these big babies today, they are getting a bit fussy now they are catching the good stuff and are even throwing the little stuff back as they don’t want to have to fillet it.

It’s quite funny as the little stuff they are throwing back is what we would have classed as a big fish when they were fishing back home. Oh how the times have changed. I don’t know how we will ever go back to fishing the lakes at home again.Read more

After we finished up with school work, we headed down the beach for the day. Brett and Shaun were out fishing.

The boys tried out their new snorkels and Lyla even gave hers a go, she is keen to go out and see some sharks now.

Then unfortunately, it is our last night, so a sunset walk, fire and fresh fish for dinner. It must have be the day for trying new things because Shaun even ate the fish for dinner ( Not that I really think he enjoyed it that much!)Read more

14 Mile - Back to the Squid Grounds

Well the squid are still here! The boys got the boat straight off and hit up their squid ground. They brought back an esky full of squid and fed everyone camped on the beach ( there was only 2 other caravans besides us, but they were stocked).
Not only did they other campers on the beach get a feed of squid but they also got a squid cleaning lesson.

Shaun has been googling squid recipes and decided he was going to prepare Chinese squid for dinner. He had pre bought all the ingredients in town. It may of taken him 3 hours to prepare and cook, but it was well worth the wait, even though I am sick I still ate it and it was to die for. Unfortunately, no one took any photos, so he will have to cook it again 😝.Read more

Brax woke up looked outside and said “ it’s prefect for a squid”. So that’s what Brett and the kids did this morning.

They came back with a full esky again ( lucky neighbours) and Brett caught the biggest squid we have ever seen! We used our Byron measure to measure it.Read more
Traveler Well done boys. Great catch. BUT don’t use Byron as a measuring stick. 😳 He’ll grow and you won’t know how long the squid was 😂

We were more prepared this time and booked ahead and got the primo beach front sites. We are loving life. Although, we probably didn’t have to book ahead as the camp ground is near empty 😂😂. Apparently it is the off season they call it ‘blowvember’ but we have been scoring the best weather, so luck is on our side.Read more

14 Mile - Kid’s fishing trip

The kids are going to try their luck going out beyond the reef. Brax is usually very worried about this but the winds are good today and he has been loving his fishing lately.

Meanwhile, I am in recovery mode, laying low in the van trying to stay out of the heat!

Unfortunately, the sharks were out today, even though the kids had a great time fishing and caught lots of fish, they kept getting eaten by sharks before they could get them in the boat 😕.

Lachlan has been renamed the Cod King as he was pulling up cod after cod.

The fishing went on into the night, as it has every night here. Tonight it was Brax’s turn to pull in a big one!Read more
