      Flying away

      October 25, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Yet another pre dawn wake up for me. That's 3 now since being away. Probably more in the last month than the last year!

My uber driver cancelled on me 15mins before I was scheduled to be picked up. Thankfully after an extra $5 and some serious stressing on my part another guy accepted and got me there on time.

Airports these days are so limited in human contact. I mt was 5am and I genuinely did not have enough brain function to figure it all out.

So first off my boarding pass was on my phone so i had to download an app to access it. I now have all of my cards on my phone aswell which is unnerving. Then I had to check my own bag in. I went up to the machine, scanned my boarding pass and it printed off my checked luggage sticker. I attached it, placed my bag on the conveyor and sent it off myself. Now normally I could have done that with little effort. Not today. Today it was 5,30am, the sun was not up and I did not have enough brain cells to figure it all out.

From there I joined the mammoth queue for security. Not bare in mind its 5,50 in the morning. No flights leave until 6,30am. And the queue had birthed a second queue. It was insane how many people were trying to check in so early. Anyways, that was an ordeal but me and the woman in front made sarcastic comments about everyone else together so that made it feel a little quicker.

The flight itself was super simple and easy. I got on, had a little nap, watched some of my movie and eavesdropped on the argument happening next to me. I was vibing.

Cairn's is just as hot as I was told. For some reason it still came as a shock. Had great fun trying to get out of the airport. There is no public transport from the airport to the city. Or anywhere else for that matter. So had the lovely ladies at the help desk tell me it would be $20 for a shuttle bus to the city. Not a vibe. But I made it.

At this point I was quiet hungry as I had only had the muffin and coffee at the airport many hours before. I thought the coffee cup was cool tho so I took a little video.

At the hostel I just relaxed by the pool. Did a bit of reading, finished my movie and attempted more of my RSA which is giving me a major headache but it must be done.

In the evening me and two girls went for a drink at the hostel bar. Nice and loud, we could barely hear each other. But it was good to meet some more people.

      Great Barrier Reef

      September 13, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

      Lucky me ☺️

      Flying to Sydney this morning

      March 23 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

It’s strange how different airlines operate regarding cabin luggage. British Airways allows 23kg in a small suitcase, Virgin Australia 7kg. Mine has gone into the hold while George’s, a much lighter case, goes into the cabin.

Now enjoying a coffee and almond croissant before boarding the flight to Sydney.

      Första missödet: Inställt flyg

      November 8, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

      To Sydney

      January 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

Woke up, kinda hurt, still quite red.

I visited the Cairns museum which was interesting. Lots of stories from aboriginal people and the effects of tourism where the rainforest meets the reef.

Ended up sitting at gilligans for a while using their wifi to sort stuff out. Had a minor heart attack when the woman at Hobart YHA said she couldn't find my booking. Thankfully she did and I managed to switch it up so that it fits around my tour next week.

Found out that there is rail works going on between Sydney and Blue Mountains so might not make it there while I'm in sydney. That's annoying but ok. Means I've got two days to see the city instead of one.

Currently waiting in the airport for my flight. I arrived in a private taxi, top tier. Was expecting a shared mini bus so that was nice. Same price as well. However I did arrive super early. So I am currently waiting to check my bag in before i can go through security to wait at my gate. Feel quite tired now, think I'll have to get a coffee if I'm going to make it without falling asleep. Or maybe I sleep in the plane?

      Tag 48 - Cairns Airport

      February 2, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

      Travel Day! Bali -> Australia

      June 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

Travel Day! Today we woke up in Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia and are going to sleep in North Cairns, Queensland, Australia! We began our day with a slow morning packing and then were picked up by our buddy Gede at 8:45 to head to the airport. We made it to the airport by 9:30, and then began working our way through security, checking bags, security, then immigration. We enjoyed an early lunch/late breakfast before our flight at 11:50 - that ended up being closer to 12:50.

There was some turbulence on the flight, but overall pretty smooth. We flew Jetstar which didn’t have a ton of space for us long-legged people. Once we landed in Australia we headed through immigration (The immigration gentleman wished Emily a happy birthday after he saw she was coming to Cairns over her birthday!) and collected our bags. We were questioned about where we had been in Bali due to a African swine fever disease that is affecting livestock in Bali that they are trying to prevent from coming to Australia.

We eventually made it through and got an Uber to our AirBnB! It is a super cute AirBnB with a great balcony! Our host even had a bottle of wine for us! We quickly headed down to the esplanade to catch dinner before restaurants closed. We ended up at a place called Courtyard and enjoyed some drinks and tacos and nachos! We wandered a little bit up past the ferris wheel (we may have to ride it at some point!) before heading back to the AirBnB to plan out our next 4 days in Cairns :)

      Bye, bye Port Douglas

      May 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C
