    Day 12

    July 15, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Had a good nights sleep at the Duaringa free camp, up early this morning and on the road by 8, back on the Capricorn hwy heading east, passed through Dingo, Bluff, Blackwater, Comet which are all mining towns or rail towns, next stop was Emerald for some shopping and a cuppa with some Woolworths donuts, yum.
Fuelled up and back on the road east and passed by the gem fields Sapphire and Rubyvale before stopping at Willows rest area for lunch, next we passed through Alpha, Jericho and arrived in Barcaldine at 3 our stop for the night at the tourist park, absolutely jam packed with grey nomads such a difference a month later makes as we stopped here last year in June which was not busy. We walked down the street for a look and to the tree of knowledge once again to see if we can get any smarter 😂😂 , mucked around with a few things on the ute and the van whilst having a drink outside, weather not bad southerly breeze is a bit fresh got too 22 probs can't complain.

    Barcaldine

    June 17, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Stayed at Lara Wetlands for 2 nights, 28km south of Barcaldine. Lovely place, thermal pool, great for the aching body & especially the back. Flys drove us crazy.

    Day 32

    June 28, 2018 in Australia

Nice and quiet overnight at Muttaburra great for sleeping, moving again today a little bit further south, 150kms of bitumen pretty good Road half of it is single lane, stopped in at Aramac for a look on the way through a small town probably a bit bigger than Muttaburra. Got into Barcaldine tourist park and was met by Geoff the owner who farms cattle as well, very interesting to chat too, about 1 km out of town so we drove into town and had lunch at the commercial hotel, big chicken Parma was real good, needed to walk of lunch so we wandered up and down the street checking out the shops. A small tea tonight after our big lunch and a few drinks, just enjoying the great weather.Read more

    Day 33

    June 29, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Probably our last day of hot weather today here at Barcaldine, a magic 27 degrees, went for a walk this morning around some of the back streets, pretty tidy town with some nice old Queenslander homes. Checked out the Australian heritage workers museum, a big display with lots of history on all things that helped make a Australia the way it is today, did some shopping and picked up some plants to bring home. Walked along the Main Street past all the pubs 6 in total, the big windmill, some sculptures made from barb wire and the good old tree of knowledge which every time we have stopped does not seem to make us any smarter. Filled in the avo by driving out to Lloyd Jones Weir camping area, not very inviting lots of caravans camped on dirt, toilets, dump point and bins can see why they stay there for extended time. Another 15 minutes south towards blackall you turn off to Lara wetlands station camp about 13 kms of sandy road, looks like a great place to stay will put it on the list for next time. Happy hour at the van and beef schnitzel and veg for dinner 🍻👍🥃Read more

    Longreach to Barcaldine Qld

    August 12, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

As many of you would know, thanks to the power of Facebook, Haydn was treated to an hour in Paul Douglas' hydralight. He had an exhilarating time just on sunset, and got to meet...and share an intimate space with .. a man who typifies outback hospitality. We also called into see Janelle Searle, one of Haydn's nak clients, who owns Studio Exclusive. Another local, (green grocer's daughter she told me) Janelle greeted us with a big hug and genuine caring....a real kind soul.
Back on the road again to head home...Haydn is ready to get back now and we are both looking forward to seeing the family (including Jazabel) and our friends. We could have taken the dirt road route however have decided to stay on the bitumen and go via Barcaldine and head towards Aramac before coming out at Torrens Creek.
Barcaldine has a terrific bakery and cafe plus the Tree of Knowledge and a rich Labor Party history.
The countryside looks green and familiar.
