Melbourne to West Wylong via Winton

      May 23, 2015 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

After final preparations we left for our long awaited first "grey nomad" trip. First stop was Benalla where Frank had arranged to meet Alan Gissing to give him a hand the following day with his race car at the Winton circuit. We parked for the night at the very "interesting" home of a friend, Peter Hall. This house has underground rooms and passageways all excavated by Peter. Very unusual to say the least!

After the day at Winton we headed up to Wodonga where we stopped for the night. Next day off to Wagga Wagga for a quick visit and a cuppa with old friends from our early years in London. Then off to the lovely West Wyalong where we stopped for a night of 23rd May at the showgrounds. The temperature next morning was 3 C which was colder than the temp inside our fridge! Thank goodness we had power connected for our fan heater.

Our next stopover was Gilgandra for a night before driving up to Warrumbungle National Park in central West NSW where we have spent two days in a lovely setting and gone on a couple of bushwalks. The whole area was burnt in the bushfires a couple of years ago but is now recovering. The rock formations are very impressive as it is an old volcanic area. Tomorrow off to Walgett.
