      Stars und Sternchen

      Heute wollten wir nochmals unser Hop on Hop off Bus Ticket ausnutzen, und so fuhren wir zum Start erstmal in die Stadt um ein wenig durch Sydney Shopping Street zu schlendern und das ein oder andere Kleidungsstück zu erwerben. Da in unserem Ticket auch ein Besuch bei Madame Tussauds inbegriffen war ging es hier als nächstes hin die Wachsfiguren bestaunen. Hierbei drehte es sich viel um Australische Stars und Sternchen aber der ein oder andere internationale Hollywoodstar war auch ausgestellt. Sehr cool dem ein oder anderen Idol doch mal so Nahe zu sein und ein Foto zu knipsen. Zum Abend trafen wir uns mit Raquel (aus Barcelona) und Johann (aus Straßburg) die Svenja und ich auf Neuseeland kennen gelernt hatten. Die zwei wohnen in Sydney am Bondi Beach und somit machten wir ein Treffen im Sydney Stadtviertel The Rocks aus was für uns beide recht geschickt erreichbar war. Wir tranken gemütlich ein paar australische Kaltgetränke und genoßen den Abend zusammen und quatschten auf englisch, deutsch und spanisch über unsere Reise und die Erfahrung dir wir gesammelt hatten. Anschließend schlenderten Hanna und ich am beleuchteten Opera House vorbei heim und packten unsere Koffer. Ein toller Ausklang unsers Sydney Aufenthaltes denn bereits sehr früh am nächsten morgen ging unser Flieger nach Perth (Westaustralien).Read more

      Abschied von Sydney

      Ich war jetzt fast 3 Monate in der größten Stadt Australiens und hab mich schon wie zuhause gefühlt und tolle Leute getroffen. Jetzt geht es aber weiter Richtung Melbourne durchs Landesinnere und dann mit der Fähre inklusive Auto nach Tasmanien! Ich freue mich schon, nicht nur weil da endlich mal kühlere Temperaturen sind, sondern auch eine andere Landschaft auf mich wartet.       Sydney, Australia

      We woke up at 5:30 AM to watch the sail into Sydney. We watched on the bridge camera until we saw that the ship was approaching Sydney. We made our way to the front of the ship. We watched as we sailed passed the Sydney Opera House and into Circular Quay. Mr. Crib, a Viking lecturer, provided commentary on the history of Sydney while also pointing and describing various points of interest. We thoroughly enjoyed sailing into Sydney. Although the last time we sailed in, it was very early in the morning before the sun was up so we were treated to the Sydney skyline all lit up

      We had breakfast on the Aquavit Terrace which had a fantastic view of the Sydney Bridge and Opera House.

      We returned to our stateroom, I answered some emails and Bob grabbed a quick nap. At 10 AM, we heading out on our own. Since we are fortunate to be in Sydney over the weekend, we knew that the street market would be open.

      The weather was beautiful, if not a tad hot, as we strolled through the market in the Rocks neighborhood of Sydney. The market is amazing. The city pulls out all the stops to make it an enjoyable experience. They provide mats and pillows for people to sit on an expanse of green lawn in the shade provided by the Sydney Bridge. There are also games for children and picnic tables.

      We made several purchases. I am beginning to get concerned about how we are going to manage to pack everything and get it home. I think that we will be forced to add duffle bag to our shopping list.

      On our way back to the ship, we stopped at the Fortune of War pub. It claims to be Sydney's oldest pub having been established in 1823. We enjoyed a fabulous cider before continuing our walk to the ship.

      We had lunch on the ship. Since the temperature has gotten quite warm, we chose to eat inside the World Cafe in the port side so we could enjoy the view of the Opera House.

      The afternoon found us relaxing in the stateroom. I worked on downloading photos to the laptop.

      I also had a lengthy phone call with my mother. It was so nice to catch up on what all is going on with my family.

      We headed up to dinner early as we wanted to have an outside table with views of the Opera House and Bridge. Dale and Jenni joined us for dinner.

      Sydney

      A 06h00 du matin nous sommes à quai à Sydney, juste en face du fameux opéra, absolument magique. Nous commençons notre visite de la ville un peu avant 08h00 par le quartier du Rocks en direction de Town Hall par George street. Le centre ville, mélange harmonieux de bâtiments du XIXème siècle et de gratte-ciel est très esthétique et agréable à parcourir. Le quartier du CBD ( City Business Distric) est époustouflant.
      A proximité de Town Hall le Queen Victoria Building est sûrement le plus beau mall que nous ayons vu. Nous commençons notre visite guidée avec « I’m free tour » à 10h30
      Market St et Pitt St sont le temple du shopping de luxe avec semble t-il les loyers les plus chers au monde.
      Nous poursuivons notre visite par Hipe Park, et sa belle cathédrale qui trône à ses abords.
      La visite du centre ville est très intéressante et très belle, notre tour finit au pied du bateau. Nous enchaînons par la visite guidée de MSC.
      Première arrêt à la «  chaise de Mme Mc Macquarie «  d’où il y a une superbe vue sur l’Opera et le Harbour bridge. La route vers Bondi plage traverse un quartier résidentiel où se trouve de magnifiques maisons face à l’océan. Après la plage de Bondi, très belle, mais plus petite que ce que l’on imaginait, notre visite se termine par la visite de l’opéra.
      Le Bâtiment mérite tous les superlatifs, l’auditorium que nous avons visité, peut accueillir près de 2800 personnes. Une très belle visite.
      Nous prenons ensuite le Ferry pour nous rendre à Manly, une bourgade de l’autre côté de la rade. Jolie station balnéaire que nous visitons rapidement avant d’engloutir de gigantesques Fish and Chips, et pour finir une mega glace de chez Anita Gelato encore meilleure que chez Rovere à St Florent.       We were up before sunrise at the Explorer Lounge to watch our sail into Sydney Harbor.
      It’s a beautiful morning with a high of 84 and a real feel of 90.
      A perfect summer day in Sydney.
      We booked the hop on hop off bus to give us a feel for Sydney. Our first stop was St Mary Cathedral. Mass was in progress so we stayed for mass and participated in communion.

      Our next stop was the Rocks as we had a lunch reservation at the rooftop bar of the Glenmore Hotel. Not as great a view as they lead us to believe.

      Back on the bus and we head to the Sydney Skytower and do the Skywalk. Kinda cool. We were tethered the whole way. Considering Diana is afraid of heights it was a great accomplishment.

      Big demonstrations in Hyde park in support of Palestine so he had to find another bus stop so we could head back to Circular Quay.
      Following a pharmacy shop (needed shampoo and conditioner for Diana) we stopped at the Fortune of War. The oldest pub in Australia.
      Dinner was at The Rocks Cafe. Very good. Walked back to the ship and ready to call it a day.

      Treffen nach 8 Jahren

      Wäre hätte es gedacht, dass ich wirklich jemanden am anderen Welt treffe, den ich wirklich auch schon vorher kannte. Als Au pairs 2016 zusammen in Sydney gestartet und sich jetzt 2024 wieder in Sydney getroffen. War wirklich ein schöner Nachmittag bei Kaffee und Kuchen.Read more

      Något skymtar i bakgrunden...

      Vi börjar dagen med att följa vår reseguidebok, en tegelsten från Lonely Planet, som har en "city walk" på 3,5 km genom de centralaste delarna av Sydney. Den börjar i "The Rocks" som är turistcentrum och bär på mer historia än övriga centrala Sydney.
      Ett åbäke till kryssningsfartyg tar upp hela utsikten, men till slut skymtar något fram bakom rumpan på det. Och när vi kommer fram till lyxhotellet Park Hyatt skriver guideboken att vi ska leka "Spot the bridal party" vilket inte var svårt alls.

      Sydney is incredible. Toured gardens, beaches, harbors… The Sydney Opera house is everything we expected and more. Our ship parked right next to the Opera House and the famous Sydney Harbor Bridge. Has to be the best berth in the world. Certainly down under. The four of us attended an Opera in the Sydney Opera House, Saturday night.Read more

      Warten auf das Feuerwerk!

      Um halb elf machten Timo und ich uns auf den Weg, um einen guten Platz für das Feuerwerk zu finden. Timo hab ich im Hostel kennengelernt und er war nur über Silvester in Sydney und Australien. Eracht eine Weltreise und sein nächstes Ziel war Südamerika.

      Im Bezirk The Rocks wurden wir schließlich fündig. Von dort hatten wir einen guten Blick auf die Harbour Bridge und die Oper. Rund elf Stunden haben wir letztlich gewartet. Die Zeit vertrieben wir uns, indem wir Karten mit zwei Ecuadorianern und einer Spanierin spielten. Neben uns saßen rein zufällig noch andere Deutsche, mit denen wir uns unterhielten und so verging die Zeit relativ schnell.

      Um neun Uhr abends gab es das erste Feuerwerk von den Aborigines. Das „Welcome to Country“ Feuerwerk war schon sehr sehenswert und verkürzte abermals die Zeit bis zum Jahreswechsel.      Read more

      Frohes neues Jahr!

      Endlich hatte das Warten ein Ende. Mit dem Countdown und einem zwölfminütigen Feuerwerk wurde in das neue Jahr gefeiert. Die zwölf Minuten stehen für die Monate im Jahr.

      Nachdem Feuerwerk versuchten wir noch irgendwo eine Bar zu finden. Dieses Unterfangen mussten wir dann leider nach einer Stunde suchen abbrechen. Im Hostel wünschten wir noch einigen noch ein Happy New Year und unterhielten uns mit anderen. Halb vier morgens ging es dann für mich ins Bett.

      Am Nachmittag des neuen Jahres besuchte ich den Sydney Tower. Von dort oben hat man eine tolle Aussicht auf die Stadt. Leider war es etwas trüb und somit die Weitsicht eingeschränkt.

      Den vorletzten Abend ging es dann noch in eine Rooftop Bar mit herzlichem Blick auf die Skyline.      Read more
