Daintree Rainforest

We got up early this morning and drove north about 2 hours to the Daintree Rainforest National Park. In order to access it, you have to take a small ferry that pulls you across a crocodile infested river (by cables). Exciting.

Once on the other side we were able to drive to all sorts of ocean lookouts and boardwalks walking through mangroves and forests. It was really beautiful. We did three of the boardwalks and each was very different than the others.

We also stopped at the Daintree ice cream shop. It was very unique - set out in the country on a fruit orchard. They grow their own fruit and make all their ice cream with that fruit by hand. The flavors were so interesting. We got a multiple scoop flight to share - coconut, mango, wattle seed, jackfruit and chocolate coconut sorbet.

I still am shocked every time I see a beach. They are SO beautiful and inviting - but … the crocs and jellyfish own them. To see people walking on the beach, soooo far up from the surf is so strange.

Driving in Australia IS stressful, being on the other side of the road AND the other side of the car. But … strangely no one speeds. Literally. It’s odd to see no one speeding past anyone on the freeways. They have cameras everywhere and ticket that way so … people follow the laws. AND in regards to the people, and sharing the road, Australians are extremely chill. I’ve driven in a few cities now and literally no one honks at you, rides your bumper, speeds past in disgust. People are very relaxed, understanding and patient. It’s a nice change from driving in the US. And I move fairly slowly checking and double checking every turn (since it’s so foreign for me). People certainly would have cause to honk at me at times - but … they don’t. ❤️

Cape Tribulation 🕷️

Nach unserer sehr regenreichen Wanderung zum Mossmann Gorge sind wir noch tiefer in den Daintree Rainforest reingefahren. Um den Daintree River zu überqueren, der das Zuhause zahlreicher Krokodile ist 🐊, haben wir eine kleine Autofähre genutzt. Die fährt täglich von 5 Uhr morgens bis Mitternacht immer hin und her. Die Fahrt dauert dabei maximal 10 Minuten. ⛴️

Angekommen auf der anderen Uferseite haben wir die Zivilisation ein Stück weit hinter uns gelassen, denn alle Ortschaften dort leben was Strom und Wasser angeht autark von der normalen Anbindung. Dafür ist es dort aber umso schöner und alleine die Fahrt mit dem Auto durch die Straßen ist der Wahnsinn! 🌴🌳🚐

Erster Stopp für uns war dann beim Alexandra Lookout, welches für uns zu einem der schönsten Lookouts gehörte! 😍

Danach ging es weiter zum Campingplatz, welcher mitten im Dschungel bei Cape Tribulation liegt. Dort haben wir dann den Rest des Tages mit XXL 4-gewinnt und Kochen verbracht. 👩🏼‍🍳🧑🏽‍🍳

Am nächsten Morgen haben wir dann noch den Strand von Cape Tribulation (Myall Beach) inkl. dem Kulki Boardwalk zum Lookout erkundet. Und auch dort hat eine wahnsinnig schöne Aussicht auf uns gewartet.. allerdings auch viele Mücken, sodass wir dort nicht allzu lange geblieben sind. 🦟

Letzter Stopp vor der Autofähre war dann noch der Thornton Beach, wo Jonas seine Handstandkünste erneut bewiesen hat. 😁🕴🏻Read more

Am morge isch es denn so wit gsi und mier hend üses Büsli chönne abhole und üse Roadtrip cha somit starte. Churz dena hemmer üs ufe Wäg zum Rägewald bi Cape Tribulation gmacht. I dem grosse idrückliche Wald hemmer denn ganz schnäll festgstellt wieso mer das ganze RÄGEwald nännt. Nachdem üs üses Lieblingstier id Flucht gschlage hed (🕷️) hemmer no e churze Abstächer a Strand gmacht wo de Wald ufs Meer trifft.

A Night in the Oldest Rainforest✨

And just like that another bucket list activity was ticked off the list!

I said I wouldn’t leave Australia without seeing the Daintree Rainforest first.. and we made it!!

Cape Tribulation is a beautiful area and is World Heritage listed!! We got to see so many beautiful areas and so much biodiversity 🤩

We learned about the Daintree Blockade, and how even though they didn’t succeed in stopping the road being built, they did intact cause a chain of events that led to the protection of the Rainforest 👏🫶

We spent our day in swimming holes and walking around the different bays.
It has given us a taste for the ultimate tropical north and we would very much love to bring a 4WD to drive further up the cape and see some even more beautiful and out of the way rainforest and jungle!

We were super lucky that we got to book an evening nature tour through some of the rainforest. Our guide spotted out some awesome critters for us to learn about and observe!

We got to see:
Web caster spider.
Peppermint stick insect (see video!), which is called that because when upset or scared they spray a peppermint scented liquid to deter predators!
Green ants (which Jack can confirm taste sour).
Wolf spiders.
Tent web spiders.
And I spotted a Hermit Crab in a snail shell!! (See video).

I feel so lucky to have experienced this incredibly intricate ecosystem fist hand! I can’t wait to see more of it in the future and I will do my best to fight to secure that future!! ✨🤝Read more

Cape Tribulation - Surrealness

After we were stuffed, we drove to Cape Tribulation. Here in the late 18th century, the well-known explorer James Cook hit the Great Barrier Reef and damaged his ship the Endeavor. That's also the only place in the world, where two World Heritage Sites are found side by side: Daintree NP and the Great Barrier Reef.
It looks so much like a green screen or a Windows background that I just can't believe it. It looks as if I could touch it and realizer that it's all just painted on a piece of paper. It's crazy. But it actually can be rather dangerous because of the boxed jelly fish or the salties that are lurking in the sea for you. After we made sure, nobody gets eaten, we went to eat something ourselves. At the Daintree Ice Cream Company, we found ourselves next to some delicious ice cream with flavors like coconut, strawberry, black sapote (the one looking like chocolate) and coffee cherry (my fav).
Finally, we made our way back home and had 2hrs resting time before we met up with the other group in our hotel for a rather filling dinner.Read more

Daintree Rainforest

Today we set off with our podcasts ready on a road trip up north to Cape Tribulation. We had to cross the daintree River on a ferry crossing which cost 36 dollars for a 2 minute journey! At Cape Tribulation, you can see where the oldest rainforest in the world meets the Reef! Unfortunately, the day was pretty overcast which made our photos lack in quality which seemed to be a theme during our time in Australia! We stopped at many lookouts coming back down the rainforest, but sadly no sightings of cassowaries or (thankfully) crocs! We had a refreshing ice cream stop with ice cream made using fruits from the rainforest.Read more

Kulki Beach

Wir fahren durch den Ort Cape Tribulation und kommen am Kulki Beach an. Ein sehr malerischer Strand mit Palmen an der langen Seite und Mangroven am linken und rechten Ende.

Wir laufen den Boardwalk entlang zum Lookout. Das dauert keine 10min. Man hat einen erhöhten Blick über den Strand und das Meer. Leider steht die Sonne schon zu tief und scheint uns direkt entgegen, um schöne Fotos zu machen.

Wir laufen wieder runter und spazieren noch ein paar Minuten am Strand entlang. Das Wasser und der Strand landen richtig zum Baden ein. Schade, dass man nicht ins Wasser darf. Es stehen überall Warnschilder, dass es Krokodile und Quallen gibt! Es gibt sogar eine Flasche mit Essig, falls man es doch wagt ins Wasser zu gehen.

Arg viel mehr gibt es aber nicht zu sehen. Wir machen uns wieder auf den Rückweg. Wir müssen unbedingt tanken. Hoffentlich schaffen wir es noch zurück nach Mossman, wo sie nächste Tankstelle ist! Die Tankstelle im Nationalpark ist unglaublich teuer.Read more

Im Springbrook Nationalpark gibts einen etwas anderen Wasserfall. Dieser fließt nämlich zur Abwechslung durch eine Höhle. Er nennt sich Naturalbridge, weil dadurch eine natürliche Felsbrücke entstanden ist.Read more

Am Morgen geht's weiter nach Noosa Heads. Diese Gegend ist ein absoluter Traum. Hier ist es von der Atmosphäre her sehr angenehm und gemütlich. Wir fahren einen Campingplatz an, der leider ausgebucht ist und stellen fest, dass hier kein powered Campingplatz mehr freie Plätze hat 😔😔😔 wir ärgern uns total, dass wir nicht einfach vorher diese Nächte online gebucht haben, aber wir konnten auch nicht wissen dass es hier so voll ist. Da es Wochenende ist und ein Marathon statt findet, haben wir besonders viel Pech 🙈 aber wir entscheiden uns dazu, den Tag hier zu verbringen und dann gegen Abend weiter zu fahren, zu einem Campingplatz in der Nähe vom Rainbow beach wo wir eh übermorgen sein müssen.
Hier in Noosa kann man vom Nationalpark einige tracks machen. Wir bekommen zum Glück nachdem wir ein paar mal drum herum gefahren sind, einen Parkplatz. Hannes holt Kaffee für uns und ich mach bisschen Frühstück. Wir setzten uns in den Park und essen erstmal gemütlich. Plötzlich schleicht sich ein Iguana (waran) an uns heran und läuft zwischen unseren Beinen hindurch. Er schnuppert ab und an an Hannes und meinen Beinen, was mir kurz mal das Herz etwas höher schlagen lässt, weil diese Bisse nicht gerade ungefährlich und schmerzhaft sein können. Aber wir bleiben cool und ruhig sitzen und so kriecht er auch wieder weiter 😁

Danach machen wir den Coast Walk. Der Weg ist mega gut gepflegt und führt durch den Wald bzw Dschungel direkt an der Küste entlang. Hier kann man paradiesische Strände besuchen. Es kommen Abschnitte wo man an Klippen steht und auf das endlose Meer blicken kann. Hier sehen wir wieder einen Wal vorbei ziehen, seine Fontäne verrät ihn😍

Dann kommen wir zum Beach und probieren die Drohne nochmal aus. Hier ist es perfekt, da der Strand sehr weitläufig und kaum was los ist. Da Luis heute seinen 4. Geburtstag hat, schreibe ich happy birthday in den Sand. Wir machen ein paar Bilder und Videos und schicken es meiner Schwester durch, die sich wahnsinnig darüber freut und Luis natürlich auch 😁

Am Rückweg kommen wir an den Nature pools vorbei. Dadurch, dass nun Ebbe ist, sieht man diese total gut. Wir springen von den Felsen aus hinein und das Wasser ist mega erfrischend. Es ist so klar, wir können sogar Korallen erkennen.Read more
