      Wieder 277 km gefahren, zwischen Stopp in Yalata 🍔...⛽️ weiter nach Penong, ganz super alte Windräder zur Beförderung von Wasser 😲 und weiter geht's nach Ceduna zum Caravanpark am Meer. Der sauberste, gepflegteste, modernste und einfach schönste Caravanpark 👍👌🫶 mit Ausblick zum Meer Sonnenuntergang.Read more

      Day 34

      Elliston - Ceduna

      Mit zwar nur 13 °C dafür aber sonnig starteten wir heute in den Tag. Für unser Frühstück machten wir einen Halt in der Venus Bay. Gemütlich am Tisch sitzend mit Blick auf das Meer sahen wir zuerst einen Pelikan und etwas später durften wir 2 Delfine beim Schwimmen beobachten. Bevor die Fahrt weiter ging, fuhren wir noch zum Steg. Da hat ein Fischer seine Fische ausgenommen, was er wahrscheinlich täglich macht. Auf jeden Fall wussten das die Möven und Pelikane. Sie standen Schlange um das eine oder andere Stück Fischabfall zu ergattern. Beim nächsten Stopp liefen wir zu den Murphy's Haystacks. Das sind unterschiedliche Sandsteinformationen. Umso mehr wir herumliefen, umso mehr entdeckten wir. Die verschiedenen Formen und Grössen waren sehr eindrücklich. Der letzte Halt war dann beim Perlubie Beach. Da Ebbe war, konnte man extrem weit ins Meer hinaus laufen. Auch besteht hier die Möglichkeit direkt am Strand zu campen, was wir aber nicht gemacht haben. Wir fuhren weiter nach Ceduna und haben in einem schönen, verhältnismässige grösserem Ort unser Nachtlager aufgeschlagen. Heute klappte es auch ohne Wolken den Sonnenuntergang über dem Meer zu sehen.Read more

      Day 12–13

      Blauer Himmel und Meer

      In Ceduna endet die spärliche Zivilisation. Auf dem Weg dorthin besuchen wir noch eine lutheranische Kirche im Nirgendwo und die Ruinen des Farmer Pionier McKenzie.
      Vor der Einfahrt in den Ort gibt es eine Quarantänekontrolle. Da wir aus Westaustralien kommen, werden wir eingehend befragt, was wir mit uns führen und unser Kühlschrank wird kontrolliert. Die einzig darin befindliche, angebrochene Knoblauchknolle dürfen wir nach Südaustralien einführen.
      Im örtlichen großen Supermarkt füllen wir unsere Vorräte, vor allem an frischen Lebensmitteln wieder auf. Im Drive-thru Liquor Shop versorgen wir uns noch mit ein paar Bier und einer Flasche Sauvignon Blanc aus Süd Australien.
      Der Campingplatz lässt unser Herz höher springen. Die sanitären Anlagen und die Camp-Kitchen sind von bester Qualität und unser Stellplatz ist sehr groß und auf einer betonierten Plattform. Da buchen wir gleich zwei Nächte. Wir nutzen eine der vielen Waschmaschinen und waschen unsere gesamte bisher gebrauchte Wäsche.      Read more

      OTR: Caravaning … Day 6 👉🏻 Ceduna

      Streaky Bay to Penong via Ceduna
      Distance Traveled: 132 Miles

      Today was planned as a short day of driving since we intended to do some sightseeing as we made our way north from our RVFT site and then turned west onto Eyre Highway … the main thoroughfare crossing all the way west.

      We did some sightseeing, but it didn’t turn out quite as we expected. Our timing was wrong. With the tide out, the beautiful beaches we expected to see weren’t as scenic as we expected them to be. Nonetheless, we stopped and enjoyed stretching our legs a bit.

      When we reached Ceduna, we parked the caravan along the foreshore and then went to find the Visitor Center to gather some information about the road for our Nullarbor adventure. As has been the case in every VC we’ve stopped at, the volunteer was friendly, helpful, and chatty. Actually, that can be said for every Australian we’ve met during this trip. Anyway, we came away with a good map and recommendations for places to stop as we cross the Nullarbor. And we have a list of food items that we cannot take from South Australia into Western Australia. So, all said … mission accomplished.

      One of the highly recommended places to visit in Ceduna is Arts Ceduna, billed as the “premier Aboriginal Arts Centre of the Eyre Peninsula.” Their mission is to support Aboriginal artists with skills development, marketing, and sales of their work. There was indeed some amazing pieces being exhibited and I wish I could share them with you. But photos were not allowed. I did purchase a couple of postcards to scan and share here, but they don’t do justice to what we actually saw.

      On the recommendation of the VC volunteer, on our way out of Ceduna, we stopped at the Oyster Barn for a seafood lunch — Smoky Bay oysters “au naturale” with lemon; gummy shark fish tacos; whiting fish & chips. All yummy, though I have to take Mui’s word for the oysters 😊

      Somewhere along our caravaning trip thus far, we seem to have gained a whole day. Where and how? Doesn’t matter. But we decided this afternoon would be a good time to sit down and re-jigger the days ahead. Hence our short day ending in Penong! We’ll do our sightseeing here tomorrow.      Read more

      Autofahrt nach Ceduna

      Wir haben uns ein wenig mit der Zeit verschätzt und sind daher erst um 20 Uhr von Port Lincoln nach Ceduna losgefahren. Die Autofahrt sollte vier Stunden betragen. Wir wollten eigentlich nie wenn es dunkel ist fahren, da hier wirklich sehr viele Tiere nachts unterwegs sind (Leon hat in der Nacht vielleicht auch zwei Tiere umgefahren/angefahren). Da wir aber unseren Campingplatz schon bezahlt hatten, ging es für uns natürlich los😊
      Irgendwann wurde unser Benzin knapper und wie ihr kennt haben wir beide ja seeehr viel Glück, wenn es etwas mit unserem Auto zu tun hat😂
      Nach drei Tankstellen, die alle zu hatten dachten wir schon geil jetzt können wir bei einer Tankstelle im Auto schlafen, bis diese öffnet (was natürlich auch nicht erlaubt ist😂)
      Ich habe dann mal schnell geschaut bis wo wir kommen könnten und habe eine 24 Stunden selfservice Tankstelle in Streaky bay gefunden. Mit 60km/h sind wir dann dorthin gefahren und haben es glücklicherweise auch geschafft 😂
      Um Streaky bay herum war sehr viel Qualm in der Luft. Das hat schon echt übel gerochen😂 und aufeinmal haben Leon und ich in den Bäumen am Straßenrand irgendwelche Tiere sehen können😂 also die Form des Baums hat uns an ein Tier erinnert, dass wir dachten wir sind von dem Qualm irgendwie High geworden hahaha zum Glück nicht 😂
      Um 1 Uhr nachts sind wir dann endlich am Campingplatz angekommen und haben das Zelt nur noch schnell aufgebaut und sind direkt schlafen gefangen 😂

      Mir händ üs scho riesig uf üse camper gfreut und vor 5 täg händ en mir in adelaide chöne go hole. Sofort händ mir üs uf dä weg richtig weste gmacht. Vo adelaide sind mir zerscht e stuck im landesinnere gfahre, bis stross dänn dä küste no gführt hät. Überwältigendi idrück und wunderschöni naturszenarie händ mir dörfe erlebe. Und swetter hät au chli verruckt gspielt, vo 43 grad am einte tag zu 21 grad am nögschte 🙈 Mir händ atemberaubendi klippe gseh, strahlendblaus meer, Delfin und wundervolli ort.       So we left Broken hill early this morning and made our way to SA (Forgot to stop at the sign lol) we then we stopped just outside of Port Augusta to get this cool snap of the massive windfarms! We had maccas for lunch in Port augusta and kept driving, we stopped at a town called Kimba which is the halfway point in Australia. We are now in Ceduna and had awesome fish and chips for dinner.       Ceduna, Smoky and Streaky Bays

      We had a great time on this part of the Eyre Peninsula. We caught crabs in Ceduna and Streaky Bay.
      We had a look at Perlubie Beach and will be better organised and stay there next time.

      Wilmington to Ceduna

      Another big driving day from Wilmington to Ceduna. The views after we dropped down the foothills towards Port Augusta were a surprise and a delight before a pretty uneventful drive the rest of the way.

      We arrived at Ceduna, set up our tent and then walked out to the end of the jetty before picking up supplies for the Nullarbor which will make up most of the next three days of travel. We grabbed some great fish and chips from the Ceduna Oyster Barn.      Read more

      Went through checkpoint this morning- no fruit or veg so sailed through. Stocked up on beer,fuel and food and a little more beer just in case ready for the trip down the Eyre Peninsula. Oyster shack was shut so will have to try tommorrow morning before we leave for Streaky Bay- Don't look Ethel!! Finished the last two holes of the Nullarbor Links at Ceduna and received a certificate for my efforts. The red shirt can now have a rest- for a day or two.Read more
