      Day 75 Victoria

      June 27, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Today we finished up in Silverton and returned back to Victoria.
It was hard to believe that Silverton, which currently has a population of 40 people, was in its peak, a mining town of more than 3,000 people.
In the morning we visited the Daydream Mine. We went on an underground tour and then a surface tour. On the tours we learnt about what life was like for the miners in the 1880s when silver was discovered in Silverton. It was pretty tough for miners, working 12 hours a day underground by candlelight. Their life expectancy was only 40 years!
After the surface tour had ended we enjoyed freshly made scones and milos.
We returned to the caravan park to retrieve the caravan and continued on our way towards Victoria.
After crossing the Murray River into Victoria we booked into the Apex River Beach Holiday Park campground in Mildura for three nights. We're planning to be home next Sunday.

      Day 76 Mildura

      June 28, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Today we returned back to New South Wales to have a look around Wentworth, then returned back to Victoria to have a look around Mildura.
The first thing we did in Wentworth was visit the Wentworth Gaol. It had lots of cool antiques and it was a very good place to play tiggy.
Next we drove over to a place called Orange World where we got some free delicious juicy mandarins and we even got an orange peeler. Once we finished in Orange world we went shopping for some more supplies.
The next thing we did was return back to Victoria to have a look around Mildura. We checked out some shops and a few book stores.

      Day 77 Mildura

      June 29, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Today was more of a relaxing day considering it was our last day of holidays. It also rained a lot of the day which made it harder to go out and do things.
The first thing we did today was drive back into town to check out a few more shops around the area. I got a big winter jacket, Jess got a beanie and a very fluffy coat. Jess and I also bought a giant hippo that we named 'Moto Moto' from the movie 'Madagascar'. 'Moto Moto' is the nickname that we had given our truck for the trip. It seemed appropriate to have a mascot on board!
Our final night we thought that we would go out for dinner to celebrate. Mum managed to find the dodgiest local pub called 'The Black Stump'. The service was pretty bad but the food was OK.

      Christmas Day

      December 25, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Much cooler night so we both had a good sleep. Our Aussie Christmas started with a wake up call from the kookaburras and a kangaroo hopped past us as we walked to the toilet. It was a lovely slow relaxing day, croissants for breakfast with a lovely large pot of coffee for me. We were responding to lots of messages which was lovely too. Next a walk along the river checking out the house boats, the trail is also a biking track so we decided to get the bikes out. It was a great track along the river and we were loving it when Regan got a flat tyre. Of course we were 5.7km from the camp so it was a long walk back in 26 degrees.

Obviously we were rather hot by then so it was good motivation to brace the Murray River for a swim. It went against everything we had been taught about not swimming where you can't see the bottom but it was perfect. The river is a slow moving muddy lifeblood for 2508km of Australia.

Lunch was ham/turkey salad and potatoes. We found some mint next to the camp kitchen which added to the potato pot and gave us a taste of home. We toasted the day with a lovely sparkling Merlot that we had bought at our last orphan Christmas at Albany in WA 3 years ago. It had been squeezed in the car for the trek across the Nullarbor and was very much appreciated with lunch. I rustled up dessert with raspberries, cream and shortbread.

Relaxing afternoon reading, watching families swimming, and another short walk. We finished the day with sandwiches and a nice bottle of wine - pretty perfect. Regan had a bit of drama later in the evening when the shower head fell off and shot hot water over all his clothes so he returned to the camper looking like a drowned rat with everything soaked.

      Mildura

      September 5, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Mildura it is for a few weeks maybe, depending on Bryce's contacts. Maybe a few weeks work. Arriving safely as I was driving. I was directed to the Apex caravan park, not knowing why but found out that this was where Andy was made (as Steve put it). They holidayed here as a family many years ago. "Righto Luv, you back it in" says he. I'm generally good a backing, even if I do say so myself but today, there was total confusion. Steve directed me to the wrong side of the site and I had in my mind that the Power pole and taps were in line with each other. So back and forth I went until I cracked the shits and thought, well I'll come at it from a different angle. Oops!!! as i was rounding the corner up the end of the block, there stood a beautiful flower pot, mmm... made of concrete. Well you can guess hat happened. As I went around to the site, the one says laughingly, "I'm and idiot, I had you on the wrong side of the site. I was too scared to mention what I had done. I couldn't believe it. How stupid of me. We continued to set up camp and I plucked up the courage to tell him. Well as we know, he hit the roof and I brought him back down by reminding him of the time he almost removed the awning. Did I rant and rave then? No. He calmed down and we continued to set up camp and headed to Bryce's to see what painting he wanted done. On a brighter note the weather is perfect, sunny and a mild 19 deg.Read more
