    Ankunft Adelaide

    April 26 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    Ankunft Adelaide

    April 26 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Read more

    Adelaide, Saturday

    October 19 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

I wake up freezing despite being in a hoodie. My bracelet is like a band of ice wrapped round my wrist if I leave it out of the covers. I'm beginning to wonder if we should have included the hypothermia option in our first aid course back in August...

It's not so bad once you have spent most of the morning emptying and reloading the vehicles prior to shipping along with the other seniors. It did actually warm up to about 16C as the morning went along so ok but nothing fab.

John and I cleared off to Paul's for lunch. It's a fish restaurant which was established in 1946 and we ate here twice on our last trip. We shared a starter of salt and pepper squid, followed by Morton Bay bugs with a lovely garlic dipping sauce..

Then we drift round Victoria Square checking out the solar cars on display, potter round town a bit and end up in the Botanical Gardens. We only managed 10 minutes here last time so it's nice to have a proper wander.

England are playing Australia in the rugby tonight so most of us wind up at The Elephant pub to watch. It's packed and loads of blokes are heavily fancy dressed up. Possibly it's some weird ex-pat thing that compels them to dress as babies in nappies, Bo Peep or teletubbies... We smash the Aussies 40:16!

Then back to the caravan park where Donna very competently whips up a huge Chinesey noodle dinner for us all. It does help having access to a proper hob where you can boil a large pot of water in less than half an hour.

    Adelaide, Sunday

    October 20 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Absolutely perishing again but I've appropriated a thick blanket that's folded double so I'm ok now. As long as I'm completely under the covers. Especially the bracelet.

Up to do our washing and, omg, bacon and egg sarnies for breakfast... Lance is the hero of the hour!! Andrew accidentally put his on fruit loaf. Someone (me) reminded Tom D about his rather public bet on Friday night that he'd eat spam fritters! The spam was dug out and a huge fuss was made about the spam fritters. To be fair Tom D did eat them. So did Deniol. And John. On fruit loaf. But no-one asked for seconds. There's been some odd food this trip. I think the boys are trying to outdo each other on weird combinations. Someone had a tuna and sweetcorn wrap with Nutella the other day... bleugh

I check out our status for rooms for after the others leave tomorrow and discover that we have a missed and unused chalet! Andrew gleefully debunks from our bunk beds into his new double bed and Lance moves into the new bunks. John and I are also moved to a deluxe room as our heating isn't working and it's so cold in there in the morning.

We tidy and relax. Lance and I go to get some bevvies to go with tonight's pizzas. We get chatting to the guy serving who queries our Ardingly College t shirts. It turns out that 8 years ago he did an exchange term at Lancing College, in the Woodard group too, and had actually played cricket at Ardingly! Small world.

It's the parade this afternoon. I'm just walking up to the car with John when the team start calling me over. Deeply suspicious, I'm poised to answer 'no' to whatever request they're about to make but it turns out to be a chap from Team Arrow asking after me. Well, asking after the sexy voiced cb radio operator with whom he'd had a mildly flirtaeous exchange earlier in the week!! I'd put it out of my head almost instantly but they had been recording comms that day and that exchange had become one of their team's best ongoing jokes!! It seems my husky voice combined with my English accent had been a hit!!

Then it's 15.00 and time for the parade to roll. Horns are sounded, a police car leads off and one by one the cars process under the arch and onto Victoria Street, down to the park. And that's it. It's all over.

What the hell, I go up to Team Arrow and introduce myself as the sexy voiced cb radio operator. The poor chap looks a bit embarrassed as I'm old enough to be his mum but we all had a laugh about it! But, hey, it gave me a buzz!!! I'm hoping they will email the voice clip to me later on.
