      Roadtrip of the Cairns' surroundings

      November 2, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

      🇦🇺
Today we rented a car to explore the surrounding area of Cairns. We joined forces with Chrissi and started early in the morning, to do a spotting tour of salt water crocodiles. Unfortunately the tour was cancelled last minute due to too few participants. Too bad... but we continued our drive to Josephine Falls. There we enjoyed the cooling water and did the famous rock slide. Of course when Matthias and I tried to slide together, something went wrong. I slipped around him, loosing my grip and landed on him, we both tried to prevent a clash with the rocks with our hands. My hand kinda lost.. I felt my right hand at first not too much!
We enjoyed the rest of our time there and continued the drive towards Millaa Millaa. Driving Matthias noticed a rainforest walk an canopy park, so we spontaneously decided to check it out. We took a nice walk at Mamu Tropical Skywalk - we had some amazing views from the canopy of the rainforest to the wide area of the Wooroonooran rainforest and Johnstone River. Walking the pain in my hand increased.
After the Walk we continued the journey to Millaa Millaa Falls. There we enjoyed some lunch with a nice view of the Fall .
Hence the pain in my hand increased more and more, we couldn’t determine a big swelling and we are going to Asia tomorrow, we decided to get my hand checked by a doctor as soon as we get back to Cairns.
We arrived there at 6 pm. 2 hours, a doctor’s opinion, an x-ray and 650$ later, we knew the diagnosis is “hand vs rock” and I had probably a tiny bone fracture. I should rest the hand the next week and get another x-ray if the pain continues in a week.
Well that was the last day of our Australia adventure 🤣. We are so relieved that it is nothing more serious!

      🇩🇪

      October 21, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Read more

      Mamu Skywalk

      August 31, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Next we headed to the Mamu Skywalk that we skipped yesterday, you can get a package deal ticket for here and Paronella. This is the highest rainforest observation tower in Qld. The lady let us know that it was a decent walk at 2.2km return. I think we'll be okay, despite the hangover. It was very flat too. We went out onto the cantilever which Ben bounced of course. Walked along the raised platform to the 37m high tower. 100 steps up and the views were amaaazing. We sat for a little bit before heading back.Read more

Mamu Skywall and the 3 waterfalls

      June 21, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

So much to do so little time. More walking. Visited Mamu Skywalk. I told Mark it was only about a kilometre long. Once we had paid we were told it was a 2.2km return trip with a counter levered section and a stair climb before returning. (We didn't do the tower.) We were there nice and early and only saw one other couple until we were on the way back. The views were amazing. It was wonderful to listen to the rainforest wake in the morning. This was only the first walk of the day.
On the way to the waterfall tour we passed this very cute little waterfall along the side of the road. It is a great place to stop for a rest. You don't see that on the Territory on the high way.
We then went on to the 3 waterfall tour. Ellinjaa, Zillie and Millaa Millaa. The first 2 were harder to get to i managed to get a photo of a local. I think the tourists are feeding him. Didn't move whole several people photographed him. Millaa Millaa had a swimming hole at the bottom and we were told to park in the lower parking area no walking needed. Should probably do this in the wet season the water will be warmer.

      Skywalk and a Swim

      October 18, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Of course the Zohars were the last to leave the caravan park at Paronella Park this morning. By the time we left at 10am visitors were already exploring the park.

We drove out and parked just outside so we could walk on the suspension bridge over the waterfall. Then we ate some yoghurt, fruit and muesli for brekky as we hadn’t eaten yet, before heading off to the nearby Mamu Skywalk, also owned by the current owners of Paronella Park.

The drive to the skywalk was gorgeous, full of rolling green hills, sugar cane and banana fields, cute little towns and the ever present green-clad mountains all around.

Again we did the skywalk separately. Lucky for us the day turned out less hot and humid than we have had for the last couple of weeks. It made walking through the forest and out on to the cantilevered walkways much more pleasant. We both felt the skywalk was a fantastic way to see both the forest floor as well as its canopy.

By the time we both did the skywalk and then ate lunch in our caravan it was getting late so we decided to find somewhere to free camp nearby before heading back to the coast tomorrow. Given the cooler weather we felt we would cope without air conditioning for tonight.

We found a lovely camp beside a gorgeous fresh water bubbling river complete with small rapids. We parked alongside facing the river and enjoyed the late afternoon by the river, even sneaking in a swim after some locals came by and told us it was fine to swim in. We both braved the water and ended up sitting in the rapids - which made a great spa pool. Cadbury enjoyed frolicking in the water fetching stones and burying his head in the water to pick up the stones.

We ate an easy dinner sitting outside enjoying the cool night air until the twilight turned to blackness all around us.

Time to head inside and make a cuppa and find something sweet to go with it.

G’night from our river rapid camp xx
