      02.20.2024 Brisabane, Australia

      February 20 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Happy 70th birthday Myron George! What a beautiful day. 85 hot and sunny.
Today we celebrated Myron’s birthday in Brisbane with an optional Viking excursion “Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary”.
The description said-Take in the panoramic sights of Brisbane before heading to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Your scenic drive takes you past Brisbane’s historic Parliament House, City Hall and other stately buildings before arriving at the sanctuary. The world’s first and largest koala sanctuary is set in a beautiful, natural environment and is home to more than 100 koalas and a menagerie of other exotic native wildlife. You will also hand-feed animals in the Kangaroo Reserve, which is home to around 150 free-ranging kangaroos and wallabies.
We had our picture taken with a koala, petted and walked among the kangaroos. Visited some reptiles and dragons.
On our way back we stopped at a lookout for a photo opportunity of the CBD.
Dinner tonight was in the private Dining room of Manfredi’s. We had 10 of what we call our people: Brian, Jonathan, Beth, Terry, Mark, Trisha, Warren, Allison, Randy and Vicki. Lots of laughs. Followed by Dancing Under the Stars before we called it a night. What an amazing day and night.
Thank goodness tomorrow is a sea day.

      Brisbane 🐨🐍

      November 8, 2023 in Australia

      LG Jojo 🩵

      Goodbye Australia!

      March 8, 2023 in Australia

We are currently in Brisbane, Australia getting prepared to hop on yet another red eye to Bangkok via Singapore.

Our last few days have been travel and adventure filled - we took an overnight train (25 hour) with sleeper seats (hallelujah because I cannot sleep on planes, cars, or in any mode of transportation requiring sitting mostly upright) from Queensland to Brisbane! This train was a highlight for me for two reasons: 1) it was Katie’s 11th birthday! 🥳 and 2) I got 25 hours of mommy alone time - in my own little cubicle style area! I slept well and It was heavenly!

Brisbane has been lovely - all along the river that runs through town (aptly named Brisbane River) are public lagoon style pools, shops, and mostly lush green space and gardens. We’ve enjoyed it.

Our last stop today before our red eye to Thailand was at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Maddie is doing a research project on koalas right now so this was a perfect last stop. The koalas were adorable; they love eucalyptus (live in the trees and eat the leaves); and cool factoid: if you ever get a koala stuck in your pool (!), you should throw a large rope in to help them climb out! This is definitely not something you hear in the US! We also got to feed lots of kangaroos!

Thank you Australia for your hospitality, beauty, and awesome accents.

We’re excited to be on our way to Thailand where just by chance, some of our friends, the Mladinichs, will be in Bangkok at exactly the same time as us! So we’re going to hang out with some friends!! Yay!

Next 2 weeks: Thailand. Bangkok, Surat Thani, and Koh Samui.

      Then Nepal!

May you all be happy, healthy and safe! ❤️ from our family to yours!

      Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

      September 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

(Meget sjovere end gederne i børnezoo.)

      Find Koalas

      May 30, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Today Tom and Kate came over to mine to drop off their bags, and we then went to a cafe and had brunch. After this, we drove to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and met up with Tommy. When we got our tickets, we asked if we could hold the koalas, and they were unfortunately fully booked but said to talk to them at the other desk and see what they could do. We then went around and looked at the koalas and birds. When we went to the other desk, we got the last two slots to hold the koalas! After feeding the kangaroos, we went and held a koala! After meeting the koalas, we went around the other zoo animals and saw some goats and guinea pigs. We then drove back to mine and got the train into Brisbane for some Korean food and bubble tea. Once we finished, we headed back to mine and took Tom to the station. We all went home after we said goodbye to Tom at the station.Read more

A little koala paradise - Lone Pine

      March 12, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Since I am probably not going to see any wild koalas, I had decided to go to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. What a wonderful place it is - a real paradise for koalas and other animals. The koalas are so cute, I could watch them for hours! They have very nice enclosures at Lone Pine. I am sure they have a good life there. They also have other animals at Lone Pine. The tasmanian devil was cool to watch, the dingoes were very lazy just lying in the corner. They also have a sheep station and some pigs and goats. At the sheep station I watched a sheep dog show. Impressive, how the dog (a three year old Australian kelpie) obeyed and was able to navigate the sheep. I also enjoyed being close to the kangaroos. You are allowed to go on the meadow where they live. One kangaroo was very curious and came very close to me. There also was a feeding of wild lorikeeti. What a chaos and noise! The birds in captivity were interesting to watch, too - especially the kookaburras and the black cockatoos. Anyway, the stars of Lone Pine are the koalas and I very much enjoyed to watch them.Read more
