    Bellingen

    January 9, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

It’s a really cute little town, very close to a free campground (in Thora - we slept there twice and saw sooooo many stars!). You can stroll around, have a look into the cute shops they have and eat an incredible good chocolate-cheesecake. Believe me: it’s worth a stopp.
    *****

    Camping near Dorigo

    November 1, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

A good thing about Australia is that you can find free campgrounds like this one! Campgrounds are good spots to meet other travellers. However, the toilets aren't always great and there are no showers. But we can deal with that haha!Read more

    Burnout in Australien!

    May 10, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

    Bellingen

    August 9, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

    Into Bellingen, an old town.
Wonderful Main Street with so many original buildings.
Daryl sent us to the oldest building...used to be Hardware, Groceries, Haberdashery ... you name it, they had it back then.
    Wonderful old shop, huge.
And magnificent old counters and old wooden staircase to the next floor up.
    Wonderful things sold here.
    Too many to contemplate.
Though Emily did buy a hat.
    A great hat... brown.
( I think she bought it because she left her black one in the car.)

On to the old cheese factory ....
    Wonderful wander around here.
Fantastic leather goods shop... wanted a pilots hat/cap/hoodie thing.
    ( Think Amelia Earhart )
Well no one else would have one on the beach!
    Thought better of it.

    Onto to Dorrigo.
    Windy road.
Going up and up through the trees.
And then it levelled out for the most beautiful, flat dairy country ... all onto of this high mountain. We drove through this for a while, to the lookout for a view of the Great Dividing Range.
    WOW!
    Just so majestic!

    Lange rit

    April 29, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

    In the middle of nowhere

    March 13, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Day 3 on the road. Suprisingly enough we fitted every thing we need (and more) into Hans on Monday and started our journey. Every day a little adventure, not knowing where we will go and where we will sleep until we get out a map after dinner and plan the next day. But even then, there is all the freedom to simply follow a hunch and change plans on the go. Exciting!
Right now, we're a bit east of Bellingen on a free park carpark that we share with at least 6 other vans. It's not the most beautiful spot, but it's a safe one and will do for tonight. The first night we basically camped on the beach in Evan's Head and last night we staid at Belinda and Scott's cabin park in Mullaway. While we're planning to limit paid parking to a minimum, we decided it was worth it (and it was). Earlier, we had met a women who lives in her van and she pointed out that "illegal" overnighter are being chased by police regularly at the moment and we just weren't ready to leave the beach.
The weather has been beautiful, we've been in the ocean every day so far. Making the most of it before it gets too cold (yes, we heard, this happens even in Australia).
And while we could tell so many more stories already, I'll let the pictures do the rest for now.
(Short fun fact at the end: Bellingen ("Bello") is considered to be the local Byron Bay. Lots of live music, a brewery, slightly alternative, and super popular with tourists.)

    Bellingen & Dorrigo

    June 6 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

A trip around this beautiful area never disappoints! It is still very lush and green in most parts! The waterfalls are all flowing well although we were disappointed we couldn't do the Ebor Falls walk as it is still closed following the bushfires 18+ months ago! We had to be satisfied viewing them from the escarpment near the carpark. The Newel and Dangar Falls were lovely. I got another train fix when we drove around the train wrecking yard/museum in Bellingen which we had visited before but always amazing just how many trains are there.Read more
