Great day out to visit the World Heritage Blue Mountain. Had some short time in Leura. Ride on the Scenic Railway, Cableway and Skyway. Afterwards quick last sightseeing from Sydney. Then good by dinner, with the lovely group of people I have met on this trip.Read more

Three Sisters Staircase

Heute habe ich mit Margherita (mit der ich letztes WE ja schon weggefahren bin) und ihrer Hiking-Group einen Ausflug in die Blue Mountains gemacht! Die Gruppe war ziemlich cool, weil wir alle international waren. Außer zwei anderen Deutschen waren noch eine Italienerin, ein Spanier, drei Franzosen und ein Inder, der allerdings momentan in Deutschland studiert und fließend Deutsch spricht.
Um 7 Uhr gings los, um den Bus zu erwischen, dann nach Paramatta und von dort aus mit der Blue Mountains Train Line direkt nach Kattoomba.
Von dort aus haben wir dann nochmal einen Bus zum Three Sisters Lookout genommen. An diesem Lookout war ich auch bei meinem letzten Ausflug in die Blue Mountains mit Melina schon. Dieses Mal sind wir dann allerdings losgelaufen und haben den Giant Staircase Walk gemacht.
Das sind insgesamt 998 Stufen entlang der 3 Sisters. Wir sind nach unten gelaufen, allerdings ist auch das nicht zu unterschätzen und meine Beine haben am Ende ziemlich gezittert.Read more

Leider hat es nach dem Wildlife Park sehr stark zu regnen begonnen und das Wetter ist bis zum Schluss so geblieben. 😓
Zum Regen ist auch noch starker Nebel hinzu gekommen, was uns das letzte bisschen Hoffnung geraubt hat, die Blue Mountains doch noch in voller Pracht zu sehen.
Heute war der erste Tag an dem wir richtig Pech gehabt haben, wir haben leider gar nichts gesehen. Alles war grau in grau, wir haben versucht das Beste draus zu machen. 😯

Immerhin, wir konnten unsere Regenponchos ausprobieren und haben uns neue Pullover gekauft. 😂

Das Gebiet, welches sich "Scenic World" nennt, ist definitiv nochmal einen Besuch wert. Unter anderem kann man hier mit der steilsten (52° Neigung!!) Bergbahn der Welt fahren. 😄

Wir hoffen auf besseres Wetter beim nächsten mal. 😊Read more

Blue Mountains - Three Sisters

I could do many posts about our day in the Blue mountains, but won’t. They are awesome, bigger, deeper, higher and wider than I imagined. The geology is hard sandstone and I guess it is this that gives the near vertical drops of around 100m that makes the lookouts so good and some of the walks so petrifying for me as I don’t like some heights.

We started at three sisters, probably the most famous of the lookouts. There are various stories about how they were formed, but the common theme is that they are three daughters (Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo) of a wizard. The daughters were in danger so he turned them into the three peaks, then something happened that either killed him or he turned himself into a Lyrebird and lost his wand; whatever happened, he couldn’t turn them back to humans. They look great from the lookout but Dom took us along the walk down to the first one. The path is fine until we reached metal ladders down to a wooden bridge and across to the rock. From the rock is a vertical drop to the canyon.

As we left it started to thunder and lightening. On to Govette Leap lookout

Later that day we learnt that two people were struck by lightening 30 minutes or so after we left. They both survived. We believe the steel ladder they were on was hit.Read more

Heute fuhren wir mit dem Zug in die Blue Mountains. Eine unheimliche Weite zwischen scharfen Kanten und Felsformationen erwartete uns. Dazwischen in den Tälern befinden sich mit die größten Eukalyptuswälder. Zwischen riesigen Eukalyptus-Bäumen, die Stämme von bis zu 80 m Höhe und einem Stammumfang von bis zu 10-15 m haben, wachsen urige, mehrere Meter hohe Palmfarne, die ältesten Pflanzen der Erde.
Mit der ziemlich touristischen Scenic World, einer Kombination aus drei Bahnen, einer Seilbahn, einer riesigen Kabinenschwebebahn und einer der steilsten Zahnradbahnen erkundeten wir die Landschaft und machten eine kleine Wanderung unten durch die Wälder über toll angelegte Stege.Read more

This morning we were picked up at 715 am for our Blue Mountains Tour. The Blue Mountains are a flat Mountains 1.5 to 2 hours west of Sydney. It is very picturesque with wonderful vistas. They call it the Grand Canyon of Australia.
Our first stop was this farm which was more of a petting zoo with farm animals and Australian animals. So we saw kangaroos , Koalas, cockatoos plus chicken, cows, turkeys you name it. A great place for young kids but we both agreed we could have missed this and they day would have been just as good.
We stopped a few times to see the valleys, water falls, rock formations and tons of trees. They have a formation called the 3 Sisters here as well, nice but Canmore’s 3 sisters are more impressive.
We chose the hiking option which while most of the members of our group went for a nice lunch at a restaurant we were given a picnic lunch and dropped off at the hiking spot. The hike was more like a leisurely stroll.
Our last stop was at the Blue Mountain Botanical Gardens and they were beautiful. We would have love to take the hour from the morning and add it to the gardens.
Tonight we enjoyed dinner with 3 couples from Australia and Celeste ordered the Kangaroo. Kangaroos are everywhere here (50 million)and the meat is like venison.

The 2nd half of today's day trip was a trip to Scenic World, in the Blue Mountains. Unfortunately, they were more like the misty, wet mountains for us, as it poured for a good chunk of the day and visibility was nil. Still an interesting trip, though...enjoyed the walk through the Jameson Rain Forest and trying to get a peek at the Three Sisters (no go). Also enjoyed the brief ride on the world's steepest train. We came back to Circular Quay (pronounced "key") via ferry which gave some great views of the Opera House and city from the water.

Now working on the final pack for the trip back to the States tomorrow morning. Australia, I feel I barely got to say "hi". I'll be back!Read more

Gestartet ist unser Tag heute früh mit einem Fotoshooting beim Opernhaus und der Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Danach ging unsere Reise mit dem Zug zu den von Sydney ca 100km entfernten Blue Mountains. Hier sind wir erst mit der höchsten und dann mit der größten Seilbahn Australiens gefahren.
Weiter ging es dann runter in den Regenwald mit der steilsten Passagier-Eisenbahn der Welt. Dort ging es zu Fuß durch den Regenwald auf Australiens längstem erhöhten Holzsteg.
Diesen erlebnisreichen Tag lassen wir jetzt gemütlich bei einem Cocktail ausklingen.Read more

Efter en hurtig morgenmad og kvik tandbørstning farede vi ud af døren til toget for at komme hurtigt afsted mod Blue Mountains. Efter lidt forvirring på central station fandt vi det rigtige tig og vups - så kørte vi gennem Sydney Suburbs.
Vi ankom til Katoomba og derfra med bus direkte til Scenic World. Der tog vi et tog - det stejleste i verden. De gik meget direkte ned gennem en tunnel og mellem to klipper.
For enden gik vi en tur i skoven på en boardwalk. Der fik vi mange nyttige oplysninger om naturen og miljøet. Så tog vi en lift op til centeret, hvor vi spiste medbragt mad. Louis Alexander og far tog en tur mere med både tog og lift. Derefter gik vi hele vejen til Echo Point og så på slugten, vandfaldet, dalen og de tre søstre.
Vi tog bussen og var hurtigt på stationen og videre med tog til Sydney.Read more
