      Friday evenings

      February 4, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

      I have good news.

The guy at work who made me feel like a complete idiot and like didnt know how to do my job, does it with everyone. And by everyone I mean, even the boss and the chefs. They have 0 management positions and everyone is constantly just rolling their eyes at their comments.

So that made me feel a lot better. I was seriously stressing about work because of them so I'm glad it's not just me. Everyone was super nice and helpful aswell. I felt a lot better by the end.

I am also trying to set up an actual blog, a way to write out my thoughts and all. But it turns out I need a name. And I can write for days about travel or hospitality, but I cannot think of a name.

Beyond that I am trying to figure out expenses to see how much money I have for my time in Western Australia. I found a cool way to explore it but I dont know which option to choose.

So that's all I'm really doing at the moment. Lots of relaxing in the park with my book, planning for my next steps and settling into work. I do need to go food shopping at some point but that is a future me thing. I'll do that later.

      And relax…

      February 19 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

The last few days have been full on with flights, jet lag and seeing as much as we could squeeze in, in Tokyo. I really enjoyed the vibe, we did a lot in our limited time, but I was ready to leave too. Tokyo is defo an assault on all the senses 😵‍💫

Hopefully a more relaxing time ahead, in the three weeks we’re here. We have 3 days in Hobart, which is a complete opposite to Tokyo! Tokyo was loud, larger than life and fast. Hobart is compact, chilled and peaceful.

Had a slow motion meander around this afternoon, did a load of washing and settled into our accommodation. Looking forward to the next few days…. Just need to catch up on some 💤💤💤💤 now….

      A slow week

      February 19, 2023 in Australia

Not done a lot this week.

Been feeling quite rough and exhausted this week. Work has been slammed, fully booked constantly so very busy as a result.

I thought of a name for my blog, ameliaswanderlust. I'm not sure if I like it but it is the closest I have gotten to something that I like and isnt taken already.

Also went to the Salamanca markets again. Got a doughnut and saw a few new stalls. I liked the pen knife one and there was a grow your own mushroom one which is cool. Also bought myself some MandMs. Two were joined together and made me laugh.

The weather has been all over the place here. On friday it hit 37° and saturday was 22°. Sunday was 30° and sunny and monday is 15° and rainy. This is crazy.

Hopefully whatever is making me sick goes soon and I can stop feeling horrible all the time.

Hobart, last part 🐸 (sad frog)

      May 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Last stay in Hobart was a big deal of confused and mixed feelings. It got cold, really cold (for someone who had been chasing summer for more than a year), rainy and dark. Everyone was leaving, Hobart was quiet and empty. But still, regardless I kept convincing myself that it was time, that I was ready to leave, kept feeling like I was leaving my home behind. Most of my time I was working at the Den, even though I had to say no to the 3IC position I got offered because of my visa, knowing that it was gonna go to someone else, still worked on a cocktail for the venue, kept getting trainings and learned so much from Mateo and the guys at the Den. On my time off I'd spend it with Mateo, Sara and the guys at the frog. Spent some time with Ella and Mak as well, and made some other friends outside. At the same time, found a job near Airlie Beach bartending where they required cocktail knowledge. It was a fact, time to go do my 88 days. Had a staff party at work themed as milfs and dilfs in a yatch party where I won the price as gild (grandma you would fuck), we went on a ferry, did some ceramics, had a fancy dinner and tons of drinks on the way, which was an interesting night for me with lots to think about. On my last night made a chocolate milk gin cocktail (because it was literally everything I had left in my bag) and went to the Den for my last drink and Mankie Sally's to give Ella and Leo my last hug, the new venue in Salamanca from Mona museum where my friend Santosh worked at with Bubu, Will, Clemant, Jonny and Tim (last gang remaining). Next morning had morning with Mateo and he took me to the airport to fly to my new adventure, unsure of how excited about leaving this magical place behind.Read more

      Busy weekends

      February 11, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Now I dont know why because it seems counter intuitive but this weekend was not only the regatta but also the annual wooden boat festival.

So needless to say there has been a massive amount of old people in the city. To the point where there was no accommodation in the city on saturday night. Literally none.

Work has been massively busy as well, as a result. Thanks to the amount of people in the city we were fully booked and turning people away all day.

The Salamanca markets were once again insanely busy. But even more so. I really like just walking around them and watching everyhting happening. Around 80% of the stalls are the same each week but some still switch every week which keeps things fresh.

I also spotted this puppy parking stall which is just too cute. There was a dog being dropped off and looked so excited from the toy it was given. Genuinely so cute.

The boat festival was far too busy for my liking and I know nothing about boats so a bit boring. If I knew about boats then the inventions section would have been really interesting. One of the old sheds was full of businesses showing off their new inventions that improve boats economically and environmentally.

It's been a long week building up to this busy weekend so glad its finally over.

      Hobart 4.0

      April 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Most people were gone at this point. Ky and Ana were in the grampians with Camila and Oshin, Isaac was in Europe, Kylian in the states, Romina and Loic found a job in a fish farm and Armand, Luca and Max were up north in Devonport. The place became colder and more and more empty. It was actually nice, I enjoyed the quiet, being more of a small and tight group, and feeling like Hobart was our den. Became tighter to Sara and Julianne, and started making preparations for my departure. Inwas originally gonna go to Cairns, where I'd meet Ky and get a car. David was gonna go as well, and some of the guys were planning to slowly road trip there. So it was exciting. But many people started talking about how hard it was finding a job up there. I started getting stressed about not being able to extend. On the meantime, kept exploring the nightlife of hobart and enjoying fancy breakfasts, going climbing with Mateo and taking some of my friends every now and then like Bubu, Clemand and Sara. Even went for some climbing excursions once or twice.

🍸Drinks: Society (fav bar so far), the Den, Whiskey Bar, Pablo's Bar, Maq10 for fancy
🍴Food: BarWa, Pigeon Hole coffee, lotus tree

      Mount Wellington

      September 19, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

We were planning to head south to do the South Cape walk, but after reading a few reviews it didn't seem that great so we decided we'll add Port Arthur into this trip, but was too far to head today.

After getting off the ferry at Kettering we thought we'd try Mount Wellington again, seeing we didn't get up there yesterday and we wouldn't be coming back past again so it was today or next trip 😄

We headed back up the windy road for 10kms.

The peek is 1,224m above sea level and on average 10 degrees colder than down in Hobart. When we were up there it was 3.7° but felt like -4.5° 🥶

The view is spectacular and well worth the drive up. I would have loved to get to the Pipe Organs but it was a 3 hour return walk. We walked about 20 minutes down the track to get a little closer but you didn't get a good photo from there. It's a next time walk.

Instead of driving to the other side of Hobart to find somewhere to camp I started looking for somewhere to stay for the night and found a cute B&B called the Battery Point Manor, which was originally built for a prominent family back in 1834.

And it's walking distance to the Salamanca district. Will have a look around the area in the morning.

      25 March 2023

      March 25, 2023 in Australia

Saturday was Salamanca Markets. We wanted to get there by 8 am to beat the crowds but before long it was crowded - there was a massive cruise ship which had docked. We had the famous Smith's Scallop Pies which were delicious. We also met an old friend - Andrea who was one of the wait staff at Don Camillo's and was no helping his Girlfriend run her Paella stall at the markets. Definitely worth a try.Read more

      "Churchill" near Campania

      October 24, 2021 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Another drive to Hobart today to catch up on shopping and gas filling. We drove along the banks of the Derwent out past Sandy Bay and through some of the old parts of town. The brick and sandstone buildings are marvelous. We learned later while visiting Port Arthur that thousands of bricks were removed from there to build homes and other buildings in Hobart.Read more
