Bevor die Show los ging, war es noch ein bisschen hin und da wir keine Lust hatten, die gesamte Zeit auf dem Showground zu verbringen, fuhren wir 35 km südlich von Griffith nach Darlington Point.

Dort schlugen wir gleich für mehrere Tage unser Lager direkt im Wald an einem Fluss auf und Aron warf selbstverständlich sofort die Angel aus. Zuerst hatte er leider kein Glück, aber am zweiten Tag, kurz vor Sonnenuntergang, biss doch tatsächlich ein Fisch an. Petri Heil! Der Tipp von Laras Chef, Käsestücke als Köder zu benutzen, war genau richtig :)

Und wisst ihr was? Selbst gefangener Fisch schmeckt gleich doppelt so gut ;)

Neben dem Angeln und dem Verkriechen ins Zelt (es waren tagsüber zeitweise 33 Grad!), nutzten wir die Zeit wieder zum Laufen. Aron hatte ja leider direkt nach dem Marathon mit Schmerzen im Fuß zu kämpfen, die auch ziemlich lange anhielten. Nun hatte er endlich nach zweieinhalb Wochen mal keine Schmerzen mehr und so ließen wir es langsam und vorsichtig angehen. Wir waren beide super glücklich, dass es auch dabei blieb! As is the case in many towns, Jerilderie has a memorial. In this case, part of the very well setup memorial is a Leopard tank. If you stop in this town, a bit of time to walk around is highly recommended.Read more

We had our last camp in NSW on our way to Melbourne, here in Jerilderie. Here it is all Ned Kelly. Everywhere you look, Ned. There is a walk around and Informative boards all around.

The park in down has been well set out and nicely maintained. Since we were here on Sunday there was very few places open.

The camp is right on a river with a short 550m walk to the town. We will return here again.Read more

We had considered staying again in Jerilderie but decided to push on to Shepparton. There we would catch up wit friends before heading off to Skipworth.

We decided to check out the place we had camped last time and then had a look at another place where people camp. This spot on the weir seems quite nice.

Before we left town we decided to try out the bakery. We had been told quite a few times that the pies were very good. We can now confirm this is in fact true. The large pie and a Half is a very filling choice.Read more

Camping on the Murrumbidgee

We decided despite the windy conditions we would camp in the reserve.

Since the weather here is pleasent, even though a bit cool, we have decided to spend our spare night here.

It was an early night to bed and an early rise. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. Now though at nearly 9am some cocatoos have arrived to make sure we are awake.

The day here on the bank of the river has been quiet. We got a few chores done, organised showers and cooked our supper. It is waiting in the shuttle chef for us.

The cocatoos just did a return run screeching their way back to their roosting area. The area is now very quiet. So quiet in fact that we can just hear the vehicles on a distant road. The dense flooded river gums tend to mute this sort of sound though.

Although quite low the river is quite clean and flowing. This is due to the water being released from a dam to be used for irrigation. Last time we were camped on this river was a bit upstream of Wagga Wagga and the water was quite muddy.

This is definitely a place we would favour to return to on another trip.Read more

Had a great drive from Cootamundra to Jerilderie today. Only 250km, but the terrain and vegetation changed so much. I love a good Aussie Road trip. Have gotten a nice cosy room for the night and I have been told the pizzas at the pub are great. We will wait and see. Have had the beers on ice all day. Guess what I'm doing now...

I was going to spend the day in Darlington Point but have pressed on this afternoon.
The lady in the caravan park told me yesterday there was a big group of vans coming in for a reunion this weekend and they had booked out the south end of the (small) van park. I camped right at the northern end just in case, but, of course, they ended up at the northern end too, about 50 metres from my tent. The boom box started at about 7pm then progressively got louder until about midnight. After that it was just loud partying until about 3am. The park Manager came over this morning to apologise to me. Said he had told them 3 times to pack it in and it had nearly come to blows. Give me a secluded beach on the river anytime, just not worth it for a hot shower!
Moral of the story? Avoid caravan parks on a Friday night.

Traveler According to the Punt Hotel website, they employ two prestigious French chefs specialising in French haute cuisine so sounds like you would have had a good feed there! Oh, and they also do a $17 schnitzel on Tuesday nights and have the coldest beer this side of the ‘Bidgee!

Hi All,
Woke up this morning to find the kayak floating free after the river had risen 20cm or so overnight and I had forgotten to tie it up (cardinal sin). Luckily the breeze was blowing it onto shore, otherwise it would have meant a search and rescue on the air mattress! Phew!
Made it into the little town of Darlington Point where I have booked into the caravan park. Forecast temps of 39 and 41 for the weekend so I might stay here for a bit longer.

Traveler Hi Eileen. Not sure about a book, but I might post my experiences online somewhere so future Paddlers can avoid some of the pitfalls I have fallen into!
