    The Namoi., Narrabri

    December 10, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Narrabri is cotton growing town, it’s cleaned & bailed at local gin & sometimes sold before harvest . Also produces , beef, sheep,(wool) wheat, & other cereal crops. Also here is the radio telescopes which listen for space noise but do not transmit .It was built in 1961 but only it’s basic structure has remained unchanged . The telescope is ten thousand times more sensitive than when commissioned in 1961 after the surface, control system, focus cabin, receivers , computers & cabling been upgraded to keep the telescope current . A cool fact is the telescope is so sensitive that a mobile phone transmission from Pluto would be considered. A really strong signal.Read more

    Oh no!!

    December 11, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

When the wind got up , absolutely blew a gale, I said to Shane” we should take down awning”. “ The winds to strong , leave it alone it’s anchored down says Shane”, but I said “let’s take it down now “. So we started to roll her up, the wind took it & wrapped it up over the roof of the van ****** it. Had men running from all directions to help us. Shane standing on some guys shoulders to get up on the roof to retrieve half the awning. I’m holding on for dear life on the ground trying to stop taking off like Mary Poppins .Bent the hell out of one awning arm, so tomorrow $350, for a new arm If we can get one before Xmas break starts. Lesson learnt . LISTEN TO HUSBAND. lol.Read more

    November 11, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Just an overnight stop at Narrabri showground on the way back to sunny Qld. Did a slight detour on the way to visit Siding Spring Observatory near Coonabarabran. There's nowhere to park with caravans up there, so we had to detach the van and leave it in a parking area down the road. (complete with hitch lock and wheel clamp).

Siding Springs is Australia's premier observatory and is located atop a mountain affording beautiful views of the area. Heaps of telescopes up here doing all sorts of research of the southern skies...very interesting.
